After injury, illness, surgery, or simply the changes that come with time - it's so common to feel disconnected, frustrated, or like you've lost trust in yourself.

Rebuilding trust with the body is not a single moment of transformation. It's an ongoing relationship - nurtured through small, consistent acts of attention and respect. Each breath, each movement, each moment of honest awareness is part of it.
*Practise mindful awareness*
Pause throughout your day to check in. Notice sensations, energy levels, emotions. Ask what your body might be communicating - and let that guide your next choice.
*Respond to what you hear*
Trust isn't built by listening alone - it's built by acting on what you hear. When the body asks for rest, nourishment, or gentleness, responding reinforces that it can rely on you.
*Question the expectations around you*
Cultural messages about productivity, appearance, and performance run deep. Try shifting the focus: what does your body make possible, rather than how does it measure up?
*Meet yourself with compassion*
Reconnecting takes time. Some days will feel easier than others. Offer yourself the same patience and kindness you'd give a close friend going through something similar.

Every breath, every action serves as a reminder that you, too, deserve to be tended.

Yoga is more than flexibility.
When you start paying attention to how you're breathing, how your body actually feels, what's going on underneath all the noise, things get interesting.
You start to notice stuff. All the tension you've been carrying without realising. The difference between pushing through and actually feeling held. And bit by bit, the relationship you have with your own body starts to shift.

Less judging. Less ignoring. More just... listening.

That's where something like trust starts to quietly build. Not because everything suddenly feels good or works perfectly, but because you're finally in the room with yourself - present, and a little more gentle about it.

Navasana (Boat pose) gets taught one way in most classes. Legs straight. Core firing. Hold it.
And for a lot of women, that version just isn't available right now. So they strain for it, feel like they've failed, or skip it altogether. But Boat pose doesn't have to start there.
Here's how I teach it - in layers.
Layer 1 - Find the foundation
Start seated. Lift one foot off the mat, just a few centimetres. Hold the back of your thigh for support. Let the other foot stay grounded.
This is the foundation and your body is learning: I can be here. This is safe.

Layer 2 - Build the shape
When that feels steady, lift both feet. Knees bent, still holding the back of your legs. Let your spine find its length without forcing it.
Your core is working. Your nervous system is calm and that's exactly the combination we're looking for.

Layer 3 - Find the full expression
When you're ready - not before - begin to straighten the legs. Slowly and on your terms.

This is the same pose. Arrived at with care.
Three layers. One pose. Your body gets to choose where it is today.
That's what building in layers means - not a shortcut to the full pose, but a respectful path towards it.
Strength built this way lasts.

Your body might not need a stretch....it might be trying to protect you

The nervous system creates tension to protect joints or vulnerable areas.

When the body feels safe and supported, it often lets go of that tension.

Sometimes the body doesn’t need more stretching - it needs more support.

Something one of the women in my Move Differently experience said has been sitting with me:
"Yoga isn't just poses and complicated flows. It can be simple and intentional movements."

I loved hearing that - because that's exactly what I hope women walk away feeling. Not that they need to perform movement, or finally look like "a yoga person," or push their bodies into shapes that don't actually feel good. Just that movement can be something that genuinely supports them - leaving them feeling stronger, steadier, a little more at home in themselves.

Simple doesn't mean it isn't working. Gentle doesn't mean weak. Sometimes the smallest shifts are the ones that actually change how you feel in your body day to day.

For a lot of women - particularly those whose bodies have a story - feeling safe enough to even begin is the real starting point.

And safety isn't something you push past. It's something you build from.

That means doing movement that doesn't ask your nervous system to fight itself. Knowing that nothing is going to be forced.

When the body finally feels held, you notice it. The places you've been gripping start to let go. And what grows from there is real - because it's coming from ease, not endurance.

That's what I mean when I talk about building through, rather than pushing through.

It's slower. It's quieter. And it stacks in a way that lasts.

This is the thread that runs through everything I teach - and it's the heart of something I'm bringing to you at the end of June.
