πΏ HEARTLAND JOURNAL | "IT MUST NOT BE LAME." πΏ
He was turning 10.
And he knew exactly what kind of birthday party he wanted.
Something wild.
Something adventurous.
Something that involved taking on the great outdoors.
It needed to be exciting. Exhilarating. A little challenging.
And, most importantly...
"It must NOT be lame." π
Challenge accepted.
We suggested our Against the Wild Adventure β a birthday experience where he and his friends would have to put their courage, teamwork and survival skills to the test.
First, they had to navigate the terrain, taking on our obstacle course and finding their way through the challenges ahead.
Then it was time to discover whether they could live off the land, searching for edible foods found in nature.
Next came the opportunity to master their marksmanship, with paintball target practice putting their aim to the test. π―
They learned what it takes to build a shelter against the elements, working together to create something that might actually keep them protected in the wild.
And finally...
There was only one way out.
Escape across the river. π
There was mud.
There was competition.
There was plenty of laughter.
There were challenges to overcome, problems to solve and a whole lot of ten-year-old energy!
And then came the verdict.
Not from us.
From the entire group, almost in chorus:
"BEST PARTY EVER!"
I think we passed the "not lame" test. π
And perhaps that's what I love most about adventure birthdays.
Yes, there is cake.
Yes, there are presents.
But somewhere between scrambling over an obstacle, building a shelter and making it across that river, something else happens too.
They're working together.
They're solving problems.
They're testing themselves.
They're getting dirty.
They're laughing.
And they're creating the kind of childhood memories that can't be wrapped in a box.
Happy 10th Birthday, young adventurer.
I think you tamed the wild rather well. πΏπ
Until next time,
