MISSION SUSPENDED

After ten days of rain we were expecting it all to clear up and went rafting with an enthusiastic family group. The first big rapid was fun - even if some of the kids got a fright - but then we saw lightning far off.

It was time to get out and postpone the rest of the trip to another day. Everyone took it in good spirits and we were all relieved to avoid the storm that then broke.

I was proud of my team of guides led by Jarrett Barr who handled the evacuation brilliantly. And thanks to Ian Judeel for coming to the rescue in a support vehicle.

Now the weather is set to be calm over Easter. The Vaal dam is 103% full so we can expect good levels over the holiday period.

RED RIBBONS FOR RAFTERS!

We had a great trip on warm, cloudy morning that seemed to wrap us in love and friendship.

And along for the ride were prizewinners from the local bird club, enjoying a free weekend in Parys on the Vaal.

We stopped for scones and bubbly.

This was a great group who started nervously but soon splashed out. Fear turned to fun and they vowed to come back for more.
