George Trails and our Ambassadors invest a great deal of time and resources into keeping the trails neat, clean and safe for everyone to enjoy.

Unfortunately, some of the trail signage is already being vandalised. These signs are there for everyone’s safety and are placed specifically on purpose-built MTB sections. They also help alert hikers and other trail users to take extra care, be aware of their surroundings and listen out for riders approaching at speed.

The flow direction shown on the signage is intended for riders. In some sections, it may actually be safer for hikers to move against the riding flow so they can see approaching riders and move off the trail when necessary.

Please respect the work that goes into maintaining and improving our trail network. If you see anyone damaging or removing signage, please let us know. Our aim is not to point fingers, but to educate and help everyone understand why these signs are important.

Together, we can keep the trails safe, well maintained and enjoyable for everyone.

*Help us grow Alexander's Great Forest this Arbor Month* 🌳

The land at the bottom of Arbour Road surrounding the GTR start, where the plantation has been cut down, is being transformed into something special.

*Buy one tree. Plant two. It is that simple.*

For every tree purchased during Arbor Month, an additional indigenous tree will be planted into Alexander's Great Forest completely free. Whether you are buying a tree for your own garden or contributing one directly to the forest, either way two trees go in the ground. The one you purchase and a free one planted straight into the forest on your behalf. 🌳🌳

Scan the QR code or visit www.alexanderswish.co.za to purchase your tree and give back 🫶🏻

TRAIL SAFETY: COMMUNITY ACTION MATTERS

This morning, the Garden Route Trail Running (GTR) community spotted smoke in the mountains and raised the alarm.

Through the George Trails community, we were able to get hold of CapeNature, who responded immediately. Their team went out, located the source and found the remains of a campfire that had been left unattended.

In dry mountain vegetation, an unattended fire can quickly become a serious wildfire. Thankfully, this one was found and extinguished before it could spread.

A huge thank you to the GTR community for spotting the smoke, taking action and helping get the right people involved — and to the CapeNature team for responding so quickly.

This is what community is about: looking out for each other and protecting the incredible natural environment we all enjoy.

Please remember: no unattended fires or open flames on or near our trails.
