A true black belt is defined by character, not by the color of a belt. While many people focus on fighting ability, experienced martial artists understand that the highest achievement in karate is personal growth. A genuine black belt stays humble despite their accomplishments, controls emotions when situations become difficult, and treats others with respect regardless of rank. They help beginners, accept criticism without becoming defensive, and never believe they have learned everything. Instead of demanding respect, they earn it through consistent training, positive leadership, and the example they set for others. When pressure, adversity, or conflict arises, they remain calm and composed, demonstrating the discipline and maturity that years of karate training are meant to develop. Ultimately, a true black belt is not recognized by what they can do to others, but by the values they display every day both inside and outside the dojo.

Retief Spence het die afgelope naweek aan die Helderberg Karate en Kobudo League 2 deelgeneem en besonder goed presteer.

Hy het uitstekende uitslae behaal in sy onderskeie afdelings en boonop ’n indrukwekkende algehele 5de plek uit 195 deelnemers verower.

Hierdie prestasie getuig van harde werk, toewyding en deursettingsvermoë. Ons is ongelooflik trots op Retief se prestasies en die manier waarop hy ons skool verteenwoordig.

Baie geluk, Retief! Ons wens jou alle sterkte toe met die res van die seisoen. 🥋🏆

2026 Helderberg League – Senshi Dojo Report 🥋

We took part in our 2nd league competition in Helderberg, and I would like to take the opportunity to thank Graham Chamberlain for an amazing tournament. Congratulations also to all the officials for a well‑run and well‑officiated event.

Our dojo showed true karate spirit and performed exceptionally well — 17 medals from only 6 students competing, giving us a remarkable 283% medal rate! The dojo is ranked in the top 10 dojos
