♟️🏆 A MILESTONE FOR OUR CLUB. A VICTORY FOR OUR STUDENTS. A STEP FORWARD IN OUR JOURNEY! 🏆♟️

Today, we celebrate a special achievement for Community Chess Club! 💙

Our players Turwin, Jerome and Zinedine attended the tournament, gaining valuable experience and continuing their journey of growth through chess. We are proud of them for showing up, competing and representing our club.

But this tournament was also personal for our founder and coach, Coach Joshua, who participated as a player and secured 🥇 1ST PLACE IN THE INTERMEDIATE SECTION WITH 5½ POINTS!

🏆 This trophy is more than an individual achievement — it is a milestone for Community Chess Club!

Although Coach Joshua was the one competing and receiving the trophy, this achievement is dedicated to every student who forms part of our chess family.

Behind every coach is a responsibility to lead, inspire and set an example. We cannot teach our learners the importance of discipline, preparation, perseverance and continuous improvement without being willing to practise those principles ourselves.

As a coach, Joshua continues to develop not only as a teacher but also as a competitive player. This journey reminds our learners that even your coach is still learning! There is always room to improve, new lessons to discover and greater heights to reach.

♟️ OUR MESSAGE TO EVERY YOUNG CHESS PLAYER:

Don’t be discouraged by losses. Learn from them.

Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s journey. Focus on your progress.

Don’t expect success without preparation. Practise, remain disciplined and trust the process.

Our vision goes beyond winning trophies. Through chess, we aim to develop critical thinking, patience, confidence, resilience and positive decision-making among young people in Manenberg, Heideveld and surrounding communities.

We want our learners to understand that the discipline they develop behind the chessboard can help them make better decisions in life.

This trophy is a milestone, but the journey is far from over. Today, our coach celebrates a victory. Tomorrow, we look forward to celebrating the achievements of our students as they continue to grow, compete and discover their potential.

To our students, parents, supporters and everyone who believes in our mission: thank you for being part of this journey. Every step forward matters, and every learner has the potential to achieve something great.

🔥 One day, we want to see our students standing proudly with their own trophies. Until then, we will keep training, learning, building and believing together!

ONE CLUB. ONE TEAM. ONE PURPOSE. MANY FUTURE CHAMPIONS! 💙♟️🏆

♟️❤️ FROM HEIDEVELD LIBRARY TO KENILWORTH RACECOURSE! ❤️♟️

On 1 October, our young chess players from the Community Chess Club had the opportunity to share their love for chess at Kenilworth Racecourse! 🙌🏽

Meet Turwin, Luciano, Karriem and Ameer - four young minds who proudly represent our community and show us that chess is about so much more than moving pieces on a board. It teaches discipline, patience, strategic thinking and the importance of making positive decisions.

As coaches, Coach Joshua Plaat and Uncle Jeremy are proud to be part of their journey as they continue to learn, grow and develop through chess. ♟️💪🏽

🙏🏽 A special word of appreciation goes to Nadine and Heideveld Library. This opportunity would not have been possible without Nadine’s contribution, dedication and support, as well as the continued support of Heideveld Library. Thank you for believing in our young players and helping create opportunities for them to learn, grow and shine beyond the walls of the library. Your support means so much to our club and our community. ❤️

We believe that talent exists in every community. Sometimes, all a young person needs is an opportunity, someone who believes in them, and a safe space to discover what they are capable of achieving.

This is what the Community Chess Club stands for using chess to build brighter minds, encourage positive choices and inspire the next generation.

One board. One community. Endless possibilities. ♟️❤️

♟️ You should let me show you what chess can do.

These aren’t just kids sitting around a chessboard. They’re learning to think before they move, to be patient, to make better decisions, and to believe in themselves.

One move at a time.
One lesson at a time.
One young mind at a time. ❤️♟️

Community Chess Club building more than chess players. We’re building young minds for the future.

♟️🏆 A SPECIAL SHOUTOUT TO OUR YOUNG CHAMPIONS 🏆♟️

Today was a massive milestone for two of our young players — Zinedine and Kareem — who both competed in their very first external chess tournament… and both returned home with trophies! ❤️♟️

🥉 Zinedine showed incredible determination, focus, and courage throughout the tournament and proudly secured 3rd Place in his section.

🥇 Kareem delivered an outstanding performance, remaining calm under pressure and earning an amazing 1st Place finish.

For their very first tournament, this is an incredible achievement and a reflection of the hard work, discipline, and dedication they’ve been putting into chess. Walking into a new competitive environment is never easy, but they represented themselves and the club with pride and excellence.

This is only the beginning for these two young stars. The future looks bright, and we are extremely proud of both of them. ❤️♟️🔥🏆
