Ground Up Sports Promotion confirms the withdrawal of boxer Sanele Msimang from the upcoming tournament scheduled to take place at Jan Smuts Stadium in Arcadia, East London, on 23 May 2026.

While the matter became public in a manner not consistent with professional boxing protocols, Ground Up Sports Promotion wishes to place on record that official correspondence was received from a medical facility confirming injuries sustained by the boxer on 14 May 2026.

Ground Up Sports Promotion further confirms that Chumani Sgadla Thunzi has officially been secured as the replacement opponent for Nomeva, subject to all regulatory approvals and promotional processes. The replacement boxer holds a professional record of eight wins and two losses and first entered the professional boxing ranks in 2017.

The event will feature world-class boxing action, alongside live music performances, entertainment activations, food vendors, and cultural experiences designed to unite fans from across the country.

Ground Up Sports Promotion remains committed to delivering a professional, safe, and high-quality sporting and entertainment experience for boxing supporters across South Africa.
