💚 𝗚𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻: 𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘂𝘀 𝗝𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗮𝗻 💚

This year, Nardus aims to join the ranks of Comrades legends when he earns his Green Number, celebrating 10 finishes of the Ultimate Human Race.
Nardus joined in 2019, but his Comrades journey stretches back many years, with countless kilometres, and lessons along the road.
When asked about his most memorable Comrades, his answer wasn't his fastest race or his best result.
"Probably Comrades 2022. It wasn't my best run, but it was my most comfortable run. It was just lekker being back on the road after Covid and I've never felt so much in control like I did that day."
For many runners, 2022 represented far more than a race. It was a celebration of the return of Comrades and the opportunity to once again share the road with thousands of fellow runners.
Nardus' best Comrades performance came in 2016 when he crossed the finish line in a superb 8:03:57.
His advice to this year's runners is short, simple, and packed with wisdom:
"Start like a coward and finish like a hero."
Patience early on often pays dividends later, when the strongest runners are still moving forward while others are struggling.

💚 𝗚𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻: 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺𝘀 💚

This year, Brad will celebrate 10 finishes of the Comrades Marathon. He joined in 2022 after relocating with his family to Benoni to be closer to Glynnwood Hospital, where his wife has her practice. While he may be relatively new to BNAC, his Comrades journey began long before that.
Bradley's most memorable Comrades remains his very first.
"My first Comrades is still my most memorable. I burst into tears after crossing the finish line because it had been a childhood dream to finish Comrades."
It's a moment that many runners can relate to. Years of dreaming, training, sacrifice, and anticipation all come together in a single emotional moment at the finish line.
Bradley's best performances are a 9:42 Down Run and a 10:39 Up Run.
When asked what advice he would give to runners taking on Comrades this year, Bradley's response highlights what makes the race so special.
"Share your journey with non-runners so they understand that Comrades is not about one day, but a whole season of laughter and camaraderie with some of the most interesting people one could hope to meet."
He adds:
"We run the same course as legends and our heroes. On Comrades Day we are all equal and we are all working towards the same goal."
Comrades is really about community, friendship, shared experiences, and becoming part of a tradition that spans generations.

💚 𝗚𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻: 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗸 💚

This year, Willem Heystek aims to join the exclusive Green Number club as he lines up for his 10th ComradesMarathon finish. While his Comrades journey has been filled with sparkling moments to match his sparkly personality, Will's running story with began in late 2019 at the Kaapsehoop Marathon.

"It was my first run in the Cheese and Tomato colours, on the same day the Springboks won the Rugby World Cup. I ran a PB and it was the best debut run ever."

When asked about his most memorable Comrades, Will's answer reflects his sense of humour.
"2025, because I have a short memory... also my worst one yet!" 😂

His best Comrades result came in 2023 when he crossed the finish line in 8:46:55 to claim a Bill Rowan medal.
Will says that success on race day is about far more than pace and training. His advice focuses on perspective and gratitude.
"In the dark moments, try to remember how privileged you are to be able to do this, and to do it with people who have supported you to get to this point."

While Comrades is a test of endurance, it's also a celebration of friendships, family, club spirit, and the incredible journey that brings runners to the start line.

Give it horns, Will. We are excited to see you earn your Green Number and take your place among BNAC's Green Number legends.

In her own eccentric style, our Club Captain Bernice Piveteau gave a recap of the 2026 training season and offered inspiring words of motivation for our ComradesMarathon runners

This year, Dan will mark his 10th finish of the Comrades Marathon, and earn his coveted Green Number.

Dan joined in 2014 and wasted little time taking on the Ultimate Human Race, completing his novice Comrades in 2015.

There is something special about a first Comrades. The nerves at the start, the challenge of the distance, and the unforgettable feeling of crossing the finish line for the first time create memories that last a lifetime.

Dan's best Comrades performance saw him finish in an impressive time of 9:25, a reflection of the dedication and commitment he has shown throughout his running journey.

For runners preparing to tackle Comrades this year, Dan offers advice that comes from experience:
"Don't bail out when you feel pain because everybody suffers the same. Pain is temporary. When you are finished, the pain is gone."
Comrades is as much a mental challenge as it is a physical one. The difficult moments pass, but the achievement of reaching the finish line stays with you forever.
