Dance Mojave is delighted to announce Lara Bennett as Artistic Director for this year’s Desert Nutcracker. This marks her fifth major production with the company, including Wild Stages and The Planets. She will drive creative choices and lead technical aspects of the performance. Lara is level-headed, inclusive, and innovative (also very funny!). We are grateful to have her at the helm guiding this new desert tradition.

This season, Lara will also create the Datura Variation and Jackrabbit Variation. She will also co-choreograph the Battle Scene with youth choreographer in residence Kyra Collins.

Lara brings over 20 years of training in ballet, lyrical, character and modern dance. In addition to her work with Dance Mojave, Lara teaches dance, gymnastics and fitness for youth and adults through the Town of Yucca Valley and City of 29 Palms. She also performs with musical groups Daytime Moon and Riverswept.

We are so grateful to have been invited to perform at Sounds and Storytelling ! We have a group of dancers bringing two choreographed pieces and one improv piece, all set to great live music. The show is on a waitlist but sign up in case a spot opens. Saturday, June 6, doors at 6:30.

Eli Rabelo will lead a Horton modern/jazz master class for all levels as the audition: 1:15-2:15 for youth ages 10-12 and 2:30-3:30 for ages 13 and up. There are exceptions allowed for 9-year-olds who are currently enrolled in a dance technique class and who have performance experience, please reach out if you’re interested!

Performances will take place April 18 and 19 and April 25 and 26 at the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve and will jointly benefit the wildlands.

Save the dates for this one-of-a-kind performance, with timed entry audience groups led by docents from site to site with multiple “stages” with live acoustic musicians along the Preserve’s beautiful boardwalk.
