This is a tough post to share. The New Year's weekend broadcast of Buckeye Sportsman will be the last. After 26 years on the air, it's time for me to hang up the mic. Several factors came into play to make this the right time, not the least of which is that I am no longer as fast on my feet word-wise as I want to be. It's one thing when a particular word or name is slow to come to mind while writing, as I can stop and look it up or wait until I remember it and write it down. That's not the case when doing radio interviews, and I want to step aside before those stops become pregnant pauses that interrupt a show's flow and keep me from delivering the quality of programming that listeners deserve. I'll continue my outdoor and travel writing, and will be leading the "Kids' Fishing Fun!" seminars at midwest sport shows. I also have a children's fishing book coming out next summer that will keep me busy. But for radio, this weekend's show is the final and it comes with a twist, as frequent guest and Ohio Outdoor News editor Mike Moore flips the tables and interviews me. I hope you enjoy that as much as I have bringing you Buckeye Sportsman for the past 1,352 weekends. Here's to a great 2023, peace on earth and remember to get a kid out there!
