Greeting Yoga Community,
When I chose September’s theme, I kept coming back to these words.
Rooted in the Becoming.
And maybe that’s because lately, life has given me a front-row seat to what “becoming” actually looks like.
It isn’t always beautiful while you’re in it.
Sometimes becoming looks like letting go of things you thought would stay.
It looks like stepping away from a role and a space you poured so much of yourself into.
It looks like your appearance changing unexpectedly and learning to look in the mirror with a little more grace.
It looks like saying goodbye to a beloved dog who held such a huge piece of your heart.
It looks like being told to slow down when movement has always been the way you process everything.
And it looks like realizing that maybe the things you thought made you strong weren’t the only things making you strong after all.
I recently came across a saying about yoga that stopped me in my tracks:
“They said yoga would make me strong. They were talking about my body. They had no idea it would build both.”
And THAT.
That is what Rooted in the Becoming means to me.
For years, I thought so much of my strength came from what my body could do.
The long holds.The sweat.The shaking muscles.The powerful flows.The miles I could run.
And yes, yoga built that strength.
But somewhere along the way, without me even realizing it, yoga was building another kind of strength too.
The strength to sit in discomfort instead of immediately trying to escape it.
The strength to surrender when I desperately want to control the outcome.
The strength to feel grief and still allow joy to exist beside it.
The strength to slow down.
To listen.
To say no.
To change direction.
To trust when I can’t see the entire path in front of me.
To stand in the space between who I was and who I am becoming without needing to rush to the other side.
Maybe that has been the real practice all along.
Because when life temporarily took away the physical practices I normally leaned on, the deeper practice was still there.
The breath was there.
The grounding was there.
The lessons were there.
And the roots were there.
August asked me to Trust the Unfolding.
September feels like the next chapter.
Now that some things have unfolded differently than I expected, who am I becoming because of them?
I don’t completely know yet.
And for once, maybe I don’t need to.
I can be rooted right here while still becoming.
Growing without rushing.
Changing without losing myself.
Trusting that not every season is asking me to bloom.
Some seasons are simply asking me to grow deeper roots. 🌿
And maybe that’s where our greatest strength is built — not only in what our bodies can hold, but in everything we’ve learned to hold within ourselves.
Welcome to September. Rooted in the Becoming. 🤍
Live well- Your friend Tarah
