Winterset Varsity Huskies beat Ankeny Hawkettes 8-3 on Friday.
Ankeny Hawkettes got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Winterset Huskies committed an error.
Winterset tied the game in the top of the fifth thanks to a single by Maci Olson and a double by Danica Ferber.
The Huskies flipped the game on its head in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead, 8-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Nora Lowden that drove in two.
Kylie Nelson earned the win for the Huskies. The hurler gave up five hits and three runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out one and walking three. Sarah Munger took the loss for Ankeny Hawkettes. The starting pitcher went four and two-thirds innings, surrendering zero runs on three hits, striking out one and walking three.
Ferber provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Winterset Varsity Huskies with three runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Makenna Olson and Ferber each collected two hits for Winterset. Addy Gross paced Winterset with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game.
