Did you know you can watch a truly unique Olympic sport right here in Williamsburg?

Our home course. Our rowers. Race day on the Chickahominy.

Join us Sunday, September 20, for the Head of the Chick Regatta 2026 at Chickahominy Riverfront Park and come cheer on Williamsburg Rowing as our crews race the clock and other competitors on our home water.

Bring a chair, find a spot along the river, and make some noise for our athletes. You can even grab some lunch from Old City Barbeque. There’s nothing quite like a home regatta — and we’d love to have a big Williamsburg crowd there for support.

And while you’re at it, make a weekend of it: James City County Parks & Recreation will host its 🍁 Fall Festival 🍁 at the park on Saturday, September 19. Come for the festival and come back for the racing!

We love to race. We love to compete. And we’re pretty proud of what our rowers accomplish on the water. But rowing is about more than race day.

Today, our rowers and club volunteers gave their time to welcome a whole new group to the sport at our FREE Learn to Row. They carried boats, taught the basics, answered questions, cheered on first strokes — and shared a sport they love with our community.

Because part of our mission at Williamsburg Rowing is simple: give more people the chance to discover rowing.

To everyone who came out and tried something new today — we hope you loved being on the water as much as we do.

And maybe today wasn’t just your first row.

Maybe it was your first day as a rower. 💙🤍

Think you're too old to start a new sport? - You're not.

Here are a few things you might not know about rowing-

FACT: Rowing is classified as a late-starting, late-specialization Olympic sport. You don't need to have started when you were 6 to be successful. In fact, our Head Coach, a 3-time US Rowing national team member, didn't start rowing until college!

FACT: In one study of NCAA Division I athletes, rowers specialized in their sport at an average age of 15.2.

FACT: Coming from another sport can be a good thing. Strength, endurance, coordination, discipline, and teamwork developed in other sports can all transfer to rowing.

FACT: Research on elite athletes, including rowers, has found that top performers often specialized later and participated in other sports when they were younger.

So maybe you've played soccer for years and you're ready for something different. Maybe you run, swim, lift, play basketball or volleyball. Maybe you haven't found a sport you love yet.

You are not behind. New school year. New experiences. Start your rowing journey today! Sign up at www.williamsburgboatclub.org.
