Parents,
As we get into the heart of travel baseball season, you’ll start seeing organizations announce tryouts for next year. When making your decision, choose the team and organization that best fits your child and your family.
Be cautious of organizations with high fees. If a program is charging a significant amount of money, make sure you understand exactly what your player is receiving from a development standpoint. Ask questions about training, coaching, facilities, tournament schedules, and player development plans. The more I learn about travel baseball, the more I realize that some organizations are focused more on generating revenue than developing players.
If you’re considering making a switch, spend some time watching the teams and coaches you’re interested in. Observe how they teach, communicate, and develop players. Also, don’t feel pressured to make an immediate commitment. If an organization truly wants your player, they should give you time to make the right decision for your family rather than pressuring you into paying upfront or locking in a spot immediately.
Good luck as you navigate the process.
