White Cloud JH Invitational Recap! 05/1

Even with it being another cold meet, and the 2nd in two days, the Wildcats fought hard in our first invite of the year bringing medals, ribbons and personal records home with us!

Honorable mentions before I get into the award winning finishes:
Gage Kirwin and Jax Conklin each hit best marks in shot put, throwing 30' and 25'1" respectively. Reid Riggs finished just one place outside of a ribbon in the mile, getting a personal best of 6:43. Easton Flanery added a new event to his resume with the 200m hurdles as well, worthy of a shout out.

Now for the performances awarded our first ribbons and medals of the year!

As with the meets, we will start with the field events where Claire Babbin brought home a medal with a 3rd place shot put finish and a ribbon for 5th place in the long jump (her first time competing in the event this year). Claire was also awarded a ribbon in the 800m with a 6th place finish on the track. Each of Reid Riggs, Jude Flanery, Easton Flanery, and Rainer Strunk brought home a ribbon for their 4th place performance in the 4×800m relay. The 4×100m relay team of Gage Kirwin, Jude Flanery, Easton Wolgamott, and Easton Flanery were also awarded ribbons with their 6th place finish. Easton Wolgamott came home with a solo ribbon as well in the 3200m with a 6th place race setting a personal best by over 56 seconds in the process. Nahcir Sawyer-Griff placed 5th in his 400m debut, earning himself a ribbon as well.

Jamari Carter and Ethan Schamber both were outstanding on the day, not only earning 3 medals each, but putting up some times that hit Megastar qualification standards! Jamari Carter posted 2nd place finishes in the 55m hurdles and time qualifying 70m sprint, as well as 1st in a standard hitting 200m hurdles 1st place. Ethan Schamber placed 2nd in the 200m hurdles (hitting qualification standards in the race for a 3rd time on the season), 1st in his 55m hurdle season debut, and another 1st place finish in the 1600m run.

Great performances and toughness were shown from the Wildcats in White Cloud! Excited to see what is to come!

WMD MS Jamboree #3 Recap! 04/30

Despite the shivering cold, the Wildcats put on a show last Thursday!

On the boys' side of things, they improved their team placement from the first two Jamborees, moving from 5th place up to 4th as a team today!
Highlight performances include:
In Shot Put, Gage Kirwin placed 2nd, scoring 8 points, with Jax Conklin also scoring a point with his 6th place finish.
We continued the scoring once it hit the track. Both the 4×400 and 4×800 relays fought to 4th-place finishes, gaining 8 points total. Easton Flanery and Jude Flanery competed in each, joined by Nahcir Sawyer-Griff and Ethan Schamber in the 4×400 with Reid Riggs and Easton Wolgamott in the 4×800.
Individually, Nachir Sawyer-Griff brought in 10 points from his 4th-place 100m and 3rd-place 200m sprint performances. Ethan Schamber scored 18 solo points from his 2nd place 200m hurdles (in which he hit Megastar qualification standards!), adding another 1600m 1st place to his season. Reid Riggs and Easton Wolgamott each scored in the 3200m run. Reid brought in 8 points with his 2nd place finish, with Easton grabbing another 2 with his 5th place time.

Our girls maintained a 6th-place finish, up a spot from the last Jamboree as well!
Claire Babbin started us off in shot put with a 3rd place performance, grabbing 6 points, with Scarlett Alley gaining another point with her 6th place throw.
On the track, Jamari Carter scored 18 points for the team, coming from her 2nd place 100m and 1st place in the 200m hurdles.

Overall, the Wildcats battled the cold to a strong showing in Marion, gearing us up for the Conference Championship!

It has been fun watching these student-athletes grow and compete, now to finish the season strong!

We’re excited to share a great opportunity for our student-athletes! 🥎

Through a co-op with Pentwater, our athletes are able to participate in softball and continue growing their skills and love for the game. We currently have three girls taking advantage of this opportunity: Paige Sadenwater-Riggs, Grace Riggs, and Alyssa Shafer—and we’re so proud of their hard work and dedication!

This partnership is an important step as we continue building interest and experience to eventually field our own softball team in the near future.

Let’s cheer these girls on as they represent our school!
