At our little outboard business we live and breathe outboards. Personally, I’ve been a certified outboard freak since I was a little kid, learning about them from my dearly departed father.

Today, we service outboards every day, and we have a modest but very nice collection of vintage engines, including some historically significant models.

We’re proud yet humbled to show our most recent acquisition: two very rare Evinrude/Johnson Wankel Rotary Racing Outboard engines, purchased together with a very nice Johnson Stinger GP racing V4 outboard mounted to a Magnum Missle recreational tunnel hull boat.

In the future, we plan to bring these treasures, along with others, to Antique Outboard (AOMCI) meets so outboard enthusiasts around the country can see them.

We are grateful to all of those who helped us to make this possible, especially including the Zipps family, Scott Davarich, Leonard Audette, Brad Snow, Mike Schmidt, Mark Passeri, Matt Downs, Mike Riggs, and many others.

This one took a lot of time and sweat. An old Mako from up Philly way, needed a lot of love. We rebuilt and restored a Johnson 150 for it to replace the old worn out crossflow 140. Removed the crusty fuel tank and replaced with a new custom aluminum tank from Tricked TINS Jonboats; had to cut multiple access holes to dig out and replace the fill and vent lines. A good thing too; the tank and fill hose were both riddled with rot and holes.

Replaced all gauges and new gauge panels, new hydraulic steering, new controls, key switch and harness, new battery cables, and new bilge pump, wiring and fuse panel. Back on the water for more memories!

We don’t see a lot of performance boats at Tiger Outboards; our typical customers have center consoles, pontoons, runabouts and skiffs. So it’s been fun rigging and servicing rigs like these.

A shout-out to Bob's Machine Shop for excellent products as always. We recently rigged a customers boat with a Bob’s hydraulic jack, planing plate, blinker style trim and jack switches, and foot throttle. As always, everything was top quality and installed easily.

FUEL! Water and dirt in fuel is one of the most common issues we see here at Tiger Outboards. It’s a very common cause of engine failure. We always recommend using a quality fuel conditioner like Gas-Shok, and use it with every fill up so you don’t forget. Boats often sit a long time without running; it’s normal, life gets in the way sometimes and you don’t get to use your boat as often as you want. While REC-90 (non ethanol fuel) is better than ethanol, it’s not always readily available. There’s nothing wrong with using ethanol, except when it sits for long periods. It’s not like your truck that you drive nearly every day. Condition your fuel, and add a water separating fuel filter!

Old ‘crabbin Whaler resurrected from bare bones with rebuilt Yamaha 40, Kent-Fab aluminum transom riser, console, cable steering with stainless wheel, NOS Morse old-school dual lever controls, blinker trim switch, LED nav lights, pedestal seats, auto bilge pump, battery charger and jump terminals, and new bow and stern eyes. Happy customer with a now ready-to-crab rig.
