We have some spots still available in the Dive Class this Saturday 9-11am at the Northcrest Pool, $30. Please reach out to 361-648-2811 if your kiddo would like to join us. They need to not be afraid to put their face in the water and they need to be able to swim back to the side by themselves after each attempt.

Dry Water Adventures recently purchased 5 kayaks and paddles for Son Valley Ranch in appreciation for letting us use the Ranch each year for our outdoor water safety classes. This year’s Sink or Swim classes broke them in and Son Valley Ranch will continue to use them for their activities throughout the year. Thank you Son Valley Ranch!

Our church has it’s version of VBS next week, called Camp Courage. We have extended registration till tomorrow and would love for some of our swimmers to join the fun. It’s for incoming 1st-6th graders and registration can be found at www.e320.church under the events tab.

Wow! We dove into week 7 of swim lessons with morning AND afternoon classes and then ended the week with a Sink or Swim Class at Son Valley Ranch. It’s such a JOY to continue to work with kids that you’ve had for years in swim lessons and get to do fun things like kayaking, treading /floating/swimming with perch and turtles, rescues, making floatation devices from your clothes, first aid, and critter ID. Hopefully they will never have to navigate out of a rip current, swim at at angle downstream to get out of a river, or organize a line for an underwater search party…but at least they know how!

Kids who swim before age 5 can show up to 15 months ahead in literacy and numeracy skills. Swimming activates both sides of the brain at the same time. Movements like kicking, balancing, and breathing in rhythm improve coordination and strengthen neural connections linked to learning. Water also adds resistance, making the brain and body work harder together.

Studies show early movement-based activities improve memory, focus, and problem-solving. Repeating swim patterns helps build timing, sequencing, and body awareness, all important for reading and math. Even 20–30 minutes a few times a week can make a difference over time.

Start simple and keep it fun. Splash, float, and play regularly. Early movement is not just exercise, it is brain building in action.
