Tidal Light Yoga

Tidal Light Yoga Guided restorative, prop based yoga with heart centered mediation in a safe, inclusive environment. All classes are a safe and inclusive environment. Namaste!!

Tides move throughout the ocean in rhythmic waves - it’s been said that this is the ocean breathing. Just like the tides are changed by the phases of the Moon and Sun; we, too, can be changed with the phases of life. During these times it can feel as if we are adrift in a Sea of Chaos. At Tidal Light Yoga we focus on centering the body through a personal connection to Breath, Body & Light. Through

practice, our body connects to its own tidal rhythm, helping to calm the Sea of Chaos. Combining Breath with Movement and Mediation, we become a Glowing Light in this World. I'm Kate McCombs, creator of Tidal Light Yoga. While living and teaching abroad in Southeast Asia, I began began practicing yoga and meditation in 2006. After moving back to Iowa, I had a spinal injury that left me with limited ability to move; frustrated at my physical limitations, I began using Meditation to turn inward, finding a sense of calm. Frustrated and self-conscious about my limitations and weight-gain, I began working individually with different yoga instructors - changing my body through the use of props! Yoga, for me, is a place to calm the mind, reset the body and find internal centering. In 2022, with the support and love from my husband, I earned my 200hr certification. I am excited to teach Body Positive Yoga focused on Restorative Flow, using Mediation and All the Props! Looking forward to seeing you on the mat!!

There’s something special about a room full of people who cheer each other on.

We laugh. We wiggle. We celebrate the little victories. And somehow, we all leave a little lighter than we arrived.

If you’d like to be part of that this Wednesday morning, we’d love to have you.

Sometimes when we think about taking a deep breath, we only think about bringing more air in.

But sometimes an inhale is less about the air and more about what it allows.

An inhale can be an invitation to soften the belly instead of holding it in. To let the ribs gently expand. To feel a little more openness across the collarbones. To notice that the throat doesn’t always have to work so hard.

Not because anything is being forced, but because the body is finally being allowed to do what it already knows how to do.

When someone asks, “What is yoga?” the answer depends on what they’re really asking.

Are they asking about its history? Its philosophy? A class at the local studio? The way it’s practiced today?

Those answers may look different.

For me, yoga has become a foundation. A place to learn how to move, how to breathe, how to rest, and how to live alongside myself and alongside others.

That’s where the conversation begins.

This week’s schedule is here. 🩵

The tide never rushes.

It comes in.

It goes out.

And in that quiet rhythm, there’s a gentle reminder that returning is part of being alive.

If this week feels like it could use a little more movement, a little more breath, or a little more community, I’d love to see you.

Stillness That Isn’t Still

Tomorrow brings the new moon, but tonight it is nearly hidden from view. At first glance, everything can seem quiet. Still. Almost as though the world has taken a breath.

But listen for a moment.

Notice the insects singing from somewhere you can’t quite see. Notice the wind moving through the trees. Notice the sound of the waves arriving and leaving. Notice the rustle of leaves in the darkness. Notice the distant call of a night bird.

Look up, even if there is almost nothing to see. The Moon continues its orbit. The Earth continues its turning. The Sun, the Moon, and the Earth move quietly toward alignment, and the tides respond in kind.

None of it is asking for your attention.

It is simply happening.

Sometimes we mistake quiet for emptiness and stillness for the absence of movement. But even on a night when the moon is nearly invisible, the tides continue to rise and fall, the wind continues to move through the grasses, and life continues all around us in countless small and beautiful ways.

Stillness, it seems, isn’t still at all.

One of the things I say most often in class is:

“Don’t clench your butt.”

Every single time, at least a few people laugh…

…and then quietly unclench their butt.

Turns out, most of us have been standing around gripping for no reason at all.

There’s something wonderfully comforting about realizing you’re not the only one.

Just a room full of humans, being human.
