We are just 3 weeks away from Independence Day and our annual Flippin Morrison WOD- the perfect blend of sweat, camaraderie, and recovery.

Flippin Morrison is one of the most fun workouts of the year, a true member favorite. It’s got a great work to rest ratio as you work in teams of 3 to chip away at the high volume reps...
150-120-90-60-30 rep rounds of:
• Wall ball shots, 14/20 pound ball
• Box jump, 20/24 inch box
• Kettlebell swings, 35/53 pound kb
Partners split the work evenly
***After each round, teams must complete 15-12-9-6-3 tire flips

Since it’s a holiday weekend that often centers around celebrating with your people, and because fitness is more fun with friends, this is the perfect occasion to BRING A FRIEND to class!

6:30am - Flippin Morrison- if you want to maximize the rest of your day grillin’ and chillin’ then this is the heat for you
8am - regularly scheduled barbell class
9:30am - Flippin Morrison- jump into barbell class before this heat, or have a later start to your Independence Day

Coach Dave V.

Across the board, Dave is known for his passion for coaching, and this shines through on Saturday mornings as he is particularly fond of barbell work. 

At a bodyweight of 190 pounds, his current Olympic weightlifting PRs are 250 pound sn**ch and 300 pound clean&jerk.  He lends both his personal accomplishments and coaching expertise to the programming.

In the group setting, he is skilled at delivering individual attention to every athlete. By providing valuable cues and feedback on form and technique, Dave's coaching is a truly valuable component of our 12 week summer lifting cycle.

Come join us Saturday morning at 8am for Barbell with Dave. His enthusiasm for member progress and his "can-do" attitude brings joy to the journey.

Meet Tolland Barbell Coach Marena!

Marena is a member of New England Weightlifting (WSO), Tristate Barbell, and is a USAW Level 1 certified coach.
Tonight she debuts as Coach for Tolland Barbell class at 6:30pm to begin our 12 week summer olympic lifting cycle.

She is likely a familiar face from the gym as she joined our community when she was a freshman in high school. Marena started lifting in 2020, and immediately found that it is her niche.

In 2023 she competed as a member of the PanAm team as well as at Youth Worlds as a member of TeamUSA.

She personally holds:
👊 24 National medals
👊 15 New England records
👊 6 Connecticut State records

At a bodyweight of 108 pounds, her current Olympic weightlifting PRs are 152 pound sn**ch and 195 pound clean&jerk.

Please join us in welcoming Marena. We are thrilled to have her lend her expertise to program our lifting cycle, and to help coach alongside Coach Dave. Can't wait to see you all TONIGHT!

Your body is not a problem that needs to be solved before summer.

Yes, it's getting hotter out and summer clothes can be more revealing than others, but we hope that you don't feel for one moment that your body is something wrong that needs to be made right. Physical wellness is a work in progress, not a state of perfection to achieve by swimsuit season.

We've heard the motto "look good to feel good," but perhaps it's the other way around...
A balanced "feel good, look good" mantra prioritizes how you feel, and that internal well-being can be seen all over you.

Focus on actionable, inside-out principles:
▶ Move your body- enjoyable exercise releases endorphins that boost mood and energy
▶ Drink plenty of water
▶ Fuel your body with vibrant, colorful foods packed with antioxidants and vitamins rather than restrictive diets.
▶ Prioritize rest

🚨 Attention All Weightlifters! 🚨

If you already know, then you know… Tolland Barbell is alive and well. If you haven’t been to barbell class before, NOW is the time to check it out.

Focused time to work your Olympic lifts is just what the doctor ordered. Beginning Monday, join Marena and Dave for a full 12 week lifting cycle. Whether you’re a seasoned lifter or a novice, if you’re looking for superior coaching with personalized feedback this is the program for you.

The 12 week lifting cycle perfectly aligns with the body’s natural adaptation window. This “mesocycle” allows enough time for the central nervous system to master movement patterns, while also preventing performance plateaus and overuse injuries. It is the Goldilocks of weight training… not too short, not too long, but just right to see positive results.

Attend as often as possible to reap the full rewards of the program, but don’t be shy about coming to barbell class during this summer cycle even if it’s sporadic.

And what’s the icing on the cake? At the end of the 12 week summer cycle, Tolland CrossFit will have an unsanctioned Olympic lifting meet! This will be a fun opportunity for everyone to experience the way a true weight lifting event is structured, and a fabulous way to see the gains you’ve made from your work throughout the program. More details on that to come!
