As the summer season begins, it's important to remember ocean safety tips, as well as sailing and boating safety. We hope everyone has a safe summer.

After yesterday’s tragic loss in Ship Bottom, it feels like a good time for a quick Beach Safety 101 reminder.

🌊 Swim near a lifeguard whenever possible

🌊 Never swim alone

🌊 If caught in a rip current, stay calm and swim parallel to the beach until you’re out of the current, then head back to shore

🌊 If you can’t escape, float, tread water, and wave for help

🌊 Keep a close eye on children, even in shallow water

As we head into summer, a little awareness can make a big difference. Enjoy the beach, respect the water, and make sure everyone gets home safely.

Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the swimmer who lost their life yesterday, and with the first responders, lifeguards, EMTs, police officers, and everyone who assisted in the rescue efforts. 💕

A reminder that this Saturday, SCYC hosts the longest running Laser regatta in the world, the annual Jack Elfman’s Orange Coffee Pot Regatta. This will be the 55th running of the event!! The winners will be the recipients of the prestigious “Orange Coffee Pot” – a particularly elegant item which Jack Elfman dug out of his shed on a whim in 1971 to award to the winner (Skip Whyte) of that first regatta for the (then) newly launched dinghy. Many of the country's top sailors have their names on this trophy. There are 2 coffee pots up for grabs representing the original Laser (now ILCA 7) and the later introduced Radial (now ILCA 6). Registration is online only via SCYC's Clubspot site. The Late Fee has been waived. The weather forecast looks great - please consider joining us for a fun day of sailing.

The weather might not have said summer, but we still did! This past weekend we kicked off the 2026 season with our annual Commissioning ceremony!

We can’t say thank you enough to for an amazing spread, for hustling to get our sound system ready to roll, and to all of our volunteers, members, and staff who made the day amazing!

We hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend and today, on Memorial Day, we remember those who sacrificed everything for the home we love.

Here’s to the summer of 2026!

The Surf City YC is pleased to announce that the 55th Jack Elfman Orange Coffee Pot Regatta for ILCA Dinghies (Lasers!!) will be held on Saturday, May 30th. This is the longest running regatta in the Laser/ILCA class and is always one of the highlights of the spring Laser season. Please be advised that registration will be online only via the regatta Clubspot site. Registrations completed after May 24th will be subject to a $10 late fee.
