Blah.

Riding high from Tuesday’s thriller, the expectations were sky high coming into our 5th game in 6 days. Unfortunately, the ball didn’t bounce our way.

The Eagles fall to class 4 Waynesville 1-0 in double overtime. There were moments of brilliance from both sides. Credit to Waynesville for finding the net when it counted. They are well coached. And it should be noted—after the game, their coach and a handful of their players came over and specifically called out Noah Clonts, Wyatt Bullock, Ben Tanner, and Brody Gawer for their performances today. The sportsmanship is admirable and appreciated. It’s really encouraging to see that kindness extend after an intense game like that. That’s uncommon.

Also. Brody Gawer is absurd. Really, the post could just end there. Brody led an exceptional defense today with 20 (not a typo, I mean 20) saves. He’s going to win some serious hardware when things are all said and done; but the offense just couldn’t capitalize today and Sullivan falls to 3-2 and the season.

JV kicked us off and continued to show growth and reason for optimism, but they also fall 4-0 to a really strong club.

Labor Day weekend couldn’t come fast enough. Time to rest and recover.

The Eagles are back on the road Tuesday against another quality opponent in Osage. JV will play one half at 5 with Varsity to follow.

On to the next one.

I know these are long. I’ve been trying to keep them shorter. These boys deserve all the storytelling, but sometimes a succinct recap is ideal.

But not this time.

Sullivan earned a split today against a really good Washington team. JV came out in the hot sun and created a lot of chances early on to try and push Washington out of the gate. This was the first game of their season, and the boys gave it everything they had. Jared Radford was excellent in net, and while there were glimpses of promise, the JV Eagles fell to Washington 3-0. Lots to love about this group, and there is a lot of reason for excitement.

And then the lights came on.

The Varsity boys were coming off an offensive onslaught the night before and were riding high from a nice start to the season. Washington has been one of those giants we just haven’t been able to topple. Credit to them; their program has had some really incredible teams. And we knew that tonight was no different.

Right from the start, the Jays had us on our heels. They are a well coached club who found some soft spots in the defense and were able to capitalize on a defensive mistake to go up 1-0 early. They continued hammering shots, but this defense stayed put. Brody Gawer made save after save and kept us in it.

The score would stay 1-0, and after some personnel adjustments at halftime, the Eagles turned the game into a track meet. Midway through the second half, the boys finally broke through on a corner as sophomore Dayton Head pokes it through traffic and into the back of the next to equalize. That spark set the whole field ablaze, and two minutes later, speed demon Carson Price smoked his defender to the sideline and threw up a DIME to a streaking Luke Herron, who smashed home a header on the run into the upper 90 for the lead!

3 minutes later, senior Jack Day sends a deep ball to Luke Herron once more, and Luke steps on the gas to beat the last defender and the keeper for his second goal of the night, and the dagger for Washington 😤

The defense—this time anchored by Zaiden Marler, Logan Podner, Wyatt Bullock, and Phoenix Taylor—put the clamps on a really talented Washington offense and Brody Gawer slams the door shut on a whole-squad masterclass of a soccer game. He ended the night with 11 saves and is atop the leaderboard in the St. Louis area 🔥

This is the first time in program history that Sullivan has beaten Washington. Saying that this is a special group feels woefully inadequate. Come see for yourself!

Tomorrow is a recovery day, but then we’re back here at home against another heavy hitter in class 4 Waynesville on Thursday! Kickoff is at 6pm for JV, and Varsity will follow.

Huge crowd tonight 🙏🏻 your voices and your presence are heard and felt from the sideline and the field. Thank you for showing up in such a big way! The party’s just getting started 😏

The boys put on a SHOW today 🤯

Sullivan takes down Wright City 7-1 in our home opener for our second win of the season. After a contested opening few minutes, Luke Herron drove the middle of the field and beat the keeper to the corner for his first goal of the night.

Center back Reed Newbanks takes advantage of some minutes on the wing to grab the second goal on an opportunistic defensive play with just over 1 minute left in the half. Seconds later, the ball is cycled through the back and the boys attack a hole in the defense as Zaiden Marler finds Reed again for his second of the night (and our third) just 1 second before the buzzer went off! Ended the first half with a bang!

Luke Herron would continue his hot start to the season as he capitalizes on a penalty kick chance, giving Sullivan its 4th goal. Then, to tie the school record in assists, he sends a beautiful ball to fellow senior Logan Podner who beats the keeper on a header for a stunning goal. 5-0 now.

Cruz Carey gets his first season point as he finds Luke at the top of the box. Luke settles to a volley, and BIKES IT TO THE CORNER for this first hat trick of the year and one of the coolest goals you’ll ever see! I’m still processing it 😳

Then, to wrap up the scoring, Luke returns the favor to find Cruz for his first varsity goal to make it 7-0. And with that assist, Luke Herron set the career assist record. Assists are the sign of an unselfish player. Luke has shown he is willing to make the smart play, and continues to show why he is one of the best high school players in the St. Louis area.

There’s so much season left; do yourself a favor and come watch this team! We’re back at it tomorrow night against a really talented Washington team. Kickoff is at 6pm as JV starts us off. Varsity will follow.

Thanks for a great crowd tonight! You were treated to some history! On to the next one 😤

All boys soccer games this week, including tomorrow’s home opener against Wright City, will now start at 6pm to help avoid the heat.

As a reminder, Monday is Varsity-only. On Tuesday against Washington and Thursday against Waynesville, JV will kick off at 6pm with Varsity to follow (should be around 7:30). See you there!

The boys earn a split today as they drop an absolute slugfest 2-0 to the always excellent Perryville Pirates. Offense create several chances and the defense was fabulous, with keeper Brody Gawer shining in this one. Brody racked up 14 saves to continue giving the Eagle offense opportunities to score and keep the game within reach. Proud of the effort against a Final Four caliber club.

The heat was tough to overcome, but the offense woke up in the second game against Kennett to earn the first victory of 2026, 6-0. Sophomore Asher Carollo opened up the scoring and tacked on another for his first two on the year. Seniors Luke Herron and Zaiden Marler would also add two goals a piece, while Ben Tanner collected two assists and Dayton Head picked up his first point of the year with an assist of his own. Brody Gawer with the shutout.

One day of rest and then we open at home against Wright City on Monday! This will be a varsity-only contest, and as of right now, kickoff is scheduled for 5pm (pending heat warning). Stay tuned for potential changes.

Nice start to the season with plenty more fun to go!
