We broke the ice last night, after seeing a really big one Monday evening but not quite getting a shot he sealed the deal on this nice bear last night. Great first bear for him.

We had another good run this morning, we pulled the dogs off after about 4 hrs because it was getting hot. Hunter did se it once at a rd crossing but no matter what we threw at him he just wouldn’t tree. Some dogs ended up with a few holes but nothing serious. He crossed just out of sight on this rd.

I had a nice run this morning, the conditions were perfect because we had a thunderstorm early last night so the woods were nice and wet. I let Moe, Bell and Blue out at the bait and they screamed out on an hour old track. They crossed a road and I turned Jake, Ace and Smoke in. He’s my year old pup and he has been cranking since the first time I turned him loose this year. They screamed for about another mile zigzagging through a swamp. I got in front of them and they were coming for the road I was on at a high rate of speed. I thought that I would see the bear any second and all of a sudden I could hear him climbing a tree right off the trail. Sometimes better to be lucky than good. It’s a long season, I’m sure I’ll pay for it later. Lol

It’s been a good first week of bait season considering all the berries that are out there and the heat.Some bears are just walking by the bait but they will be back.
