Almost a decade ago, Grace Geary was a college junior studying exercise science when a family medical issue forced her to put her education on hold. That break may have been the best thing that ever happened to her.
“I just wasn’t as academically focused or mature then as I needed to be,” she remembers. “I learned a lot during that time away, things that aren’t taught in a classroom. Now I have more mental clarity, drive, and an eagerness to learn. Something clicked, and here I am.”
Grace is in her second year studying to be a registered nurse and was recently awarded an academic scholarship by the Quincy College Foundation. She’s grateful for the recognition and for the financial help the scholarship provides as she pursues her degree in a supportive, confidence-building environment – especially important to someone proudly challenging herself as an adult learner.
“Nursing is fascinating, but it’s a lot. I know I couldn’t have done this at 18,” she acknowledges. “But I’m different now. I’ve chosen to be a student and Quincy College is setting me up for success. When I graduate, I know I’ll be ready.”
