New Look Hock Schedule, New Thanksgiving Site for Black Knights

When you look at the Stoughton High 2026 football schedule, the thing you notice is who isn’t on it this year and where their Thanksgiving Day game will be played.
For the 100th Thanksgiving game, the Black Knights and the Canton Bulldogs will be playing Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Fenway Park in Boston. The game will start at 8 p.m.
With the Black Knights switching places in the Hockomock League with King Philip, going from the Davenport Division (small schools) to the Kelly-Rex, Stoughton will be substituting Attleboro, Franklin, Milford and Taunton for Foxboro, Mansfield, Oliver Ames and North Attleboro. Canton also becomes a non-division game on Thanksgiving, while Sharon has opted to combine with Dedham and will play an independent schedule.
“I have mixed feelings about it,” said Stoughton head coach Chris Evans, who played for Foxboro on a Super Bowl championship team in 2006. “We have been playing those teams for a long time. I have mixed feelings about Foxboro, (but) this will be a new opportunity for us and a fresh start.”
Stoughton played Milford a few years back in the playoffs and Attleboro is starting new with first-year coach Lamont Penn. Franklin will be the Ballack Knights’ opponent on Oct. 3 as part of Stoughton Day with a drone show to follow the game. Taunton is coached by Brad Sidwell, who was previously the head coach at Franklin.
“Brad always does a great job,” said Evans. “Taunton is always a good team.”
The Black Knights are hoping to renew their rivalry with Oliver Ames in a non-league contest down the road.

0bservations from Bridgewater-Raynham scrimmage:
The Stoughton High football team got a chance to line up against an opposing team for the first time in the 2026 season, playing a controlled scrimmage against a very good Bridgewater-Raynham team, that is predicted to be one of the top teams in the area, Tuesday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Stoughton.
Five things from the scrimmage:
1. The Trojans were a good pre-season test for the Black Knights. Both teams worked on their inside run game package, then took part in 7 on 7 passing session before scrimmaging at the end, with each team running 10 offensive plays.
“The physicality was excellent,” said Stoughton head coach Chris Evans. “Bridgewater-Raynham is a really well-coached team and they threw a lot of different things at us.”
2. One of the hardest things to develop in the pre-season is an offensive line, because of the timing involved. That wasn’t a problem on Tuesday. Stoughton’s line was able to free up holes for the running backs and gave the quarterbacks time to throw.
“I think the offensive line is going to be the strength of the team,” said Evans. “Bridgewater-Raynham was using stunts and blitzes against us. We haven’t seen that in practice.”
3. Stoughton receivers are going to present match-up problems for opposing teams’ defensive backs with their ability to get open and go after the ball in the air.
4. Defensive lineman Gabe Rivera is going to cause problems for opposing teams’ offenses with his ability to shed blocks and get to the ball carrier. He showed that against Bridgewater-Raynham where he overpowered opponents to make the tackle.
5. The Black Knights’ attitude on the field against the Trojans was one of things that stood out for the coach.
“We have strong leadership on the team,” said Evans. “There was no bad body language. The players were able to correct their mistakes and there was zero-point- zero finger pointing.”
The Black Knights will scrimmage at Milton on Friday night before opening the season on Sept. 10, in Norwood at 6 p.m.

STOUGHTON MOVES UP IN HOCK-The Stoughton High athletic teams will be competing in the Kelley-Rex, the large school division of the Hockomock League. The Kelley-Rex has the six schools with the largest student enrollments in the league. The Davenport, the division Stoughton had been in since the league split into two divisions, has the six schools with the smallest enrollments. Attleboro, Franklin, Milford, Sharon and Taunton will make up the large division. Sharon opted out of league play in football to play an independent schedule after combing teams with Dedham.
The Davenport football division will be made up of Canton, Foxboro, King Philip, Mansfield and Oliver Ames, which could be one of the toughest divisions in football in the state. Canton, Foxboro, King Philip and Mansfield have all been ranked in the preseason rankings.
For the next two years, the divisions will remain the same. After the 2027-28, enrollment numbers will be reviewed as teams could be on the move again.
