25 Years of Teaching Swim Lessons 💙

Summer 2027 will mark my TWENTY-FIFTH year teaching swim lessons! And honestly, I’m not sure I’ll ever have the words to fully express what this journey has meant to me.

I always loved the water as a very young child. As a teenager, I cooked up this idea that I would use our backyard pool in Irongate to teach children to swim. I never could have imagined what that little idea would turn into, but boy, was that young girl in store for an adventure. I started by putting flyers in neighbors’ mailboxes, placing advertisements in the newspaper, and hanging flyers wherever I could. There was no Facebook, texting, or Instagram. It meant calling my parents’ landline and talking to each individual mama, daddy, or grandma on the phone. 😂

And my poor neighbors… they were along for the ride too! People parking everywhere, screaming children, families coming and going, and literally people everywhere. The fun was just beginning!

I taught through high school, then went off to college in Alabama. I wasn’t able to teach the entire summer, but I would always come home for a few weeks to teach. After graduating college, I realized there was still such a need for swim instructors in Statesboro. There is so much water around us, and these children need to learn how to swim.

I vowed that as long as I was physically able, I would return year after year.

And I have.

That has meant teaching while newly pregnant, freshly postpartum, and VERY pregnant. 😂 It has meant squeezing lessons into every season of life and figuring out how to make it work.
The trust and good faith that Bulloch County has given me is something I will always be forever grateful for.

My parents eventually moved away, but that didn’t stop Bulloch County from helping me achieve my dream of helping children learn to swim. For the past 13 summers, I have been blessed with several host pools. These families have opened their hearts — and their homes — to me and my little swim lesson operation. They have a heart of gold, and without them, this simply would not be possible.

I could not have taught for this long without ALL OF YOU.

The kindness and generosity everyone has shown me brings me to tears.

And then there are the moments that make you realize just how full-circle this journey has been.
I have had the same babysitter — a girl I actually taught to swim! — watch my middle daughter for the last five summers. She blocks off time from her own schedule to help me and take care of Morgan.

This summer, I had both girls with me, and a woman who used to watch ME kept my baby.
My assistants over the years have been sweet children I once taught to swim.

And that, right there, is what this is all about.

Full circle.

I started as a young girl with a backyard pool and a crazy idea.

Twenty-five years later, I look around and see generations of children I have taught, families who have trusted me, friends who have supported me, host families who have welcomed me, and former swim students who have come back to help teach the next generation.

I can never, EVER say how grateful and thankful I am for all of you.
You have trusted me.
You have nurtured me.You have encouraged me.And you have kept this dream alive, even through the toughest seasons.

From the very bottom of my heart…
Bulloch County, THANK YOU. 💙

Here’s to 25 years — and to every little swimmer who has made this adventure so incredibly special. 🏊‍♀️💦

WE did it! Year 24 was both the most memorable and the most kids I’ve ever taught in 3 weeks. I can proudly say nearly 300 kids in bulloch county are now water safe. There were a lot of smiles, thumbs ups, and many tears. We worked through all of it! I am so incredibly GRATEFUL to each and every one of you for trusting me with your children.

Thank you to my pool hosts as it would not be possible without the kindness of opening your homes. I will be forever indebted to each of you.

Thank you to my wonderful assistants. Most I actually taught to swim and have been with me for years. Wonderful girls with amazing hearts!

We all know this is no longer my home and I had wonderful babysitters, patents, and many people that help to make this happen every year.

Thank you again and looking forward to year 2️⃣5️⃣ in 2027!!

Xoxo

Swim lessons are a time to learn life-saving skills and build confidence in the water. I understand how difficult it can be to watch your child struggle during the learning process, especially when you cannot immediately step in to help.

Drowning remains one of the leading causes of death among children. For the past 24 years, I have dedicated my life to teaching children how to be safe in and around the water. The tears and frustration can be hard to watch and hear, but for most children, those first few challenging days are short-lived and quickly forgotten as their confidence grows.

What you see over the course of lessons is an incredible transformation—from a child who cannot swim to one who can float, control their breathing, close their mouth in the water, and safely get themselves to the side of the pool.

The child featured in this video cried for the first four days of lessons and is now a safe, confident, and proficient swimmer. I taught her the same way you see me teaching your children today.

I understand that my teaching style may not be for everyone, but my mission has always been to help as many children as possible learn the skills they need to stay safe in the water. As a parent of three children myself, I know that not everything we do for our children is fun in the moment. Sometimes, we must stand firm because their safety is what matters most.

Please know that everything I do comes from a place of care, commitment, and a genuine desire to keep your child safe.

Let's finish these next two days strong!💪 🏊🏻‍♀️

💗I have 8am and 2pm last minute openings for this week💗

299 Winnie way..brooklet

Good Morning!
🏊🏻‍♀️ I have posted pictures of the parking.
🏊🏻‍♀️DO NOT PARK IN THE DRIVEWAY
🏊🏻‍♀️I can’t teach and police the parking. You are welcome to park in the field
🏊🏻‍♀️please park either in the pictured field or alongside the pictured driveway
🏊🏻‍♀️children are not allowed to walk or be anywhere near the pictured porch with chairs. It is slippery and someone could get hurt
🏊🏻‍♀️please either bring your own chair or use the chairs next to the pool
🏊🏻‍♀️please make sure you have signed your waiver
🏊🏻‍♀️look for the girls in purple shirts if you need a waiver as well as to hand your child to one of them.
🏊🏻‍♀️use this page for all weather updates. Plan on coming unless you see an update here

☀️☀️ I am and have done my best to accommodate last minute requests, but please do not ask for refunds or credits if your child does not attend a day(s). The expenses are still there for me. (Assistants, childcare, Airbnb, etc) I have and will always try to do what’s right, but this is my job and how I support my family.☀️☀️

Let’s have a great last 4 days to end this great month of getting everyone water safe!!!

Xoxo
