I’ve seen some conversation lately about saddle pricing, and I wanted to share some real talk from the industry.
A U.S. custom saddle maker often has $1,400–$1,800+ just in quality materials (premium leather, custom tree, woolskin, hardware, and more) before any labor time is added. That’s straight from professional saddle makers’ data and builder reports.
Every rider and horse has different needs — and different budgets.
That’s why saddles exist at many price points:
• Higher-end U.S.-built customs for those who want and can afford the premium domestic craftsmanship.
• Solid, well-made imported customs (like the ones I offer) that deliver excellent fit, quality control, and durability at a more accessible price.
My saddles are not in the same category as the ultra-cheap $400 retail imports that sometimes get used to paint the entire imported saddle industry in a negative light.
Those entry-level options often cut corners on materials and construction, while mine come from trusted suppliers with proper leather, better trees, and real customization to fit you and your horse.
My direct-import model lets me build strong supplier relationships, customize to your specs, and provide personal service — all while keeping the price at $900.
It’s a great option for riders who want solid value without stretching their budget or don’t want a used saddle with a ‘brand name’ on it that has passed through many hands and levels of care.
At the end of the day, the “right” saddle is the one that fits your horse and rider properly, holds up to your riding style, and matches what you can comfortably afford. There’s room in the market for all of us.
If you’re shopping for a saddle and want honest details on materials, customization options, fit, or how my saddles compare, feel free to DM me or drop a comment. I’m happy to help you find what works best for you and your horse — no pressure, just straight info.
Thanks for being part of the western riding community. Let’s keep supporting riders at every level. 🐴
