Community feedback needed! 🚲🏃‍♂️
Willamalane is considering adding a new multi-use path in northeast Springfield, a project identified as a high priority in Willamalane's 2023 Comprehensive Plan and the City of Springfield's Transportation System Plan. The district is currently gathering community input as part of a grant-funded feasibility study to make sure that, if constructed, the path would best serve the community.

Learn about the project and share your feedback on the proposed route at willamalane.org/mckenzie. 💡TIP: For an immersive experience with maps, helpful visuals, and project information, follow the guided tour through each survey question.

Volunteers gathered last week to care for the Talking Stones throughout Eastgate Woodlands and East Alton Baker Park, an area also known as Whilamut Natural Area (wheel-a-moot).

The group traveled to each of the 15 stones to gently clean them and remove weeds. These stones were designed to honor the history of the land and the Kalapuya people and to reintroduce their words to the landscape. They were quarried from basalt in traditional Kalapuya territory and serve as educational and cultural reference points.

This project was in collaboration with Parks & Open Space, City of Eugene Government, and Marta Clifford, a citizen of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and the Native Elder Consultant for Willamalane, City of Eugene, and City of Springfield.

A hot summer is approaching, and soon we will all be flocking to nearby rivers to cool off and connect with nature. Before you grab your swimsuit, here are a few important water safety reminders:
🛟It doesn't matter if you're a kid, an adult, or even an Olympic swimmer; life jackets save lives. The life jacket kiosk at Clearwater Park is restocked and open. If you don't have a life jacket, borrow one from the kiosk and be sure to return it so others can benefit from this resource. (Thank you, Eugene Springfield Fire, Cabela's, and Lane Professional Firefighters, Local 851, for making this kiosk available.)

🚫Make sure you know your route and are aware of hazards. The Willamette and McKenzie Rivers are dynamic waterways, not lazy rivers. River conditions are constantly changing; scout ahead and choose a vessel that enables you to steer. Before launching, check posted signs for regulations and warnings. On the Willamette River, it is highly advised that river-goers take out at the West D St Boat Ramp to avoid the low-head dam, located .3 miles downstream.

Springfield is so fortunate to be situated between two scenic rivers. Please enjoy the water safely and responsibly.❤️ More information can be found at https://www.oregon.gov/osmb/Pages/Propulsion-Landing-Pages/Go-Paddling.aspx

The grass is greener at Camp Putt Adventure Golf Park now that new turf has been installed! We recently replaced turf on several holes on the Thunder Falls course and a few on the Cascade Springs course. There were a few other improvements as well, like replacing some fencing and adding new features to the "Dam Beaver!" hole (hole #12 on Thunder Falls).

Camp Putt is currently open Fridays, 4-7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays, 12-7 p.m. Summer hours begin June 12. Learn more at willamalane.org/putt

Springfield: Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote in the May 19 election. Lane County elections updated numbers this afternoon, and Willamalane’s levy is now narrowly ahead by 218 votes, with 50.69% yes and 49.31% no, continuing the trend we’ve seen since the original results on Tuesday evening.

The counting is not over, and it is still too close to definitively call. The next updated numbers won’t come until Thursday next week. Meanwhile, we just want to share our gratitude for being Springfield’s park and recreation district. Regardless of the final outcome, Willamalane is committed to serving this community and will find a way to continue to do so.
