Congrats to Henry Elin - the 2026 Kingfisher Lacrosse Volunteer of the Year!

Henry is not a player for Kingfisher. His brother is and his parents brought him along to games. Most siblings would grouse about being somewhere they didn't need (or want) to be or sit off to the side on their phone, etc. Not Henry. Henry helped set the fields. Henry helped organize concessions and even basically ran the stand sometimes. And, Henry learned how to, and then became so adept at, running the master clock and scoreboard at Mt Vernon Stadium that we would leave him to that task alone for games at a time! He even lent a major hand at the State Tournament, walking fields to collect scores, delivering items, and helping with awards. All the while with a great attitude and amiable personality.

Henry - thank you!

Each year the Kingfisher Club recognizes a Volunteer of the Year. These individuals are selected for going above and beyond what could reasonably be expected of a parent or player. Awardees offer exceptional support to the Club and her players, providing unique service that advances our goal of growing lacrosse opportunities for girls and boys in greater Cedar Rapids - Iowa City.

Congratulations to Logan and Isabella on their selection for this honor! Two outstanding Kingfishers.

TODAY, the Board of Directors of the Iowa Lacrosse Association announced the inaugural recipients of the Austin Turner Leadership Awards. The Austin Turner Leadership Awards recognize male and female athletes from Iowa high school teams. These individuals were selected by their respective clubs because they are leaders on and off the field, holding themselves and their teammates to high standards of sportsmanship while also excelling on the field and in the classroom.

“These players are leaders on their individual teams and for their programs,” said Jeff Kueter, President of the Iowa Lacrosse Association. “They have exceptional work ethic, have demonstrated a commitment to growing lacrosse, and proven themselves in competition. We extend our congratulations and sincere thanks to these young men and women for all they have done to advance the sport of lacrosse in Iowa.”

This annual Leadership Award is named after and celebrates the life of former lacrosse player and coach, Austin Turner, who passed away in 2025. “A.T.” as he was known to his teammates, coaches, and friends, was a valued member of the West Des Moines Lacrosse Club where he both played and coached for the Tigers program.

The Turner Leaderships Awardees will be recognized at the State Championships which are held June 6-7 at the Prairie Ridge Sports Complex in Ankeny. Teams from across Iowa will gather there for a two-day competition to crown champions in 10U, 12U, and 14U boys and girls, along with High School girls and boys play. Play begins at 9am on Saturday morning, continuing through Sunday afternoon’s final games. The Turner Awardees will be recognized at Noon on Saturday.
