Simi Valley Y Swim Masters

Simi Valley Y Swim Masters This page is primarily for the members of the Simi Valley YMCA Swim Masters Team to provide informat We will slowly build this. Robert J. Hitchcock

We continue to grow in our attempt to develop a swim program for adults at the Y. We are so fortunate to have such a beautiful facility and a staff that encourages our development. I envision our time together to be spent in three basic areas. I am still formulating this with our Aquatics Director but at this point I see a program developing along the following three areas. Training and Fitness
Th

e first and most common approach to a Y program with a pool is to provide access to water activities that will stimulate physical exercise and fitness. While I do not plan to use the time to teach swimming, I will try and help with stroke improvement and provide tips on how to become a more efficient swimmer. I will use the white boards that we have at our disposal to provide stroke technique and each day's workout so that if you cannot make the morning period on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday between 5:30 and 7 AM workout, you can do the workout on your own at a time more convenient for you ...all year around! Tri-Athletes and Open Water
We are so blessed to live in an area that is so full of swimming opportunities. Ocean swims and competitions are scheduled all over the area and are fun events to participate in. The weather in southern California also provides year round availability to train for triathlons as well. Both of these types of swimming require specific training and I plan to get up to speed with the techniques and training schedules that will help those who use the pool for that purpose. I also plan to become more familiar with events around the area that triathletes might be interested in participating as well as ocean and open water swims. Manta Ray Swim Team
As I have stated before my long term goal is to develop a team that will participate in USMS swim meets. There is a lot of un in the social aspects of a team and the challenge of competing always strikes a nerve once it has whetted once appetite! We currently have to South Pacific Masters swimmers, two that promise to sign up and a tem registered with the South Pacific District. Workouts will focus more on stroke technique and paces appropriate for competition for those who wish to be part of this endeavor.

GREATEST MOMENTS IN SWIMMING
In 1988, Matt Biondi's brilliance in the Seoul, Korea Olympics was the closest thing anyone had seen to Mark Spitz. Biondi won seven medals overall that year—five of them gold—and set a world record in the 50-meter freestyle. In a cruel turn of fate, Biondi is perhaps best remember, however, for one of the races he didn't win. In the 100 fly final Biondi underestimated his distance from the wall and coasted the final few meters, allowing Suriname's Anthony Nesty to nip him by 1/100th of a second.

So, if you are interested in attending and visiting with each other in a "dry" environment, let me know!! But hurry because I only have room now for 6 more invitees! - Coach Rob
