A few weeks ago, Rival member Sheila Weaver fell down 14 stairs. Bruised. Banged up. Sore.
But somehow, no broken bones.
The next day, she was walking the beach and enjoying life.

Now, we’re not claiming strength training makes you invincible. But we do know that years of consistent resistance training can improve strength, balance, and bone density—things that become increasingly important as we age.

Sheila has put in that work for years.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Today is especially meaningful as we remember two men connected to our gym family who served with courage and are no longer with us. Their strength, character, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

As we train, grow stronger, and live freely — we remember that freedom was paid for by others.

It’s amazing how many women prioritize cardio — but skip the kind of training that actually builds strength for life.

And while walking is a healthy habit, muscle is what protects longevity.
Strength training builds the posterior chain, supports bone density, improves balance, posture, and helps preserve the strength you’ll need for life.

Research shows muscle tissue burns more calories at rest than fat tissue — roughly 6–10 calories per pound per day compared to about 2–3 calories for fat. Over time, building muscle helps improve metabolism, strength, and overall health.
Because the truth is — strength training is what helps make those long walks possible into your 80s, 90s, and beyond.
