With over 30 years of experience, Janet has been a top competitor and trainer at local, national and international levels since she was a child. With Grand Prix wins at the national and international levels, one of the titles she has claimed is the Ameri

can Grand Prix Rookie of the Year. Janet is dedicated to producing riders and horses who are competitive at local, national and international levels from the beginners to grand prix riders. She builds equestrian athletes through physical and mental skill development in order for each individual to achieve her/his goals. Sue Lyman piloted Kensington Court to a win in the inaugural $25,000 Upperville Thoroughbred Hunter Derby on Tuesday. Their names will be the first etched on the trophy, which fittingly was sculpted by Lyman herself. The rider, who is also an accomplished artist, designed it in the likeness of her Thoroughbred stallion, Simbalu—Lyman's horse of a lifetime.

“I've always had a Thoroughbred,” she said. “I had a couple of warmbloods for a couple years, but then when I slowed down, all I had were Thoroughbreds. This is all I want to ride, because they go the way like to ride. I don't want to have to hold contact, worry about swapping off the leads—these horses just find the jumps.”
