Sometimes growth isn't about adding more.

Sometimes it's about clearing out what's getting in the way.

This week at Santa Cruz Boxing, we're focusing on blocking and defense. Most people come into boxing wanting to learn how to punch harder and move faster. But before we can build new skills, we often have to correct old habits.

Dropping your hands.
Closing your eyes.
Standing too tall.
Letting fear or frustration take over.

Growth isn't always exciting. Sometimes it's simply removing the things that are holding us back.

The same is true outside the gym.

Whether it's a bad habit, negative self talk, self doubt, or just being stuck in the same routine, making room for growth often starts by letting something go.

That's one of the reasons coaching matters.

Sometimes we all need someone in our corner to help us see what we can't see ourselves, encourage us when progress feels slow, and remind us that growth is still happening.

This week, protect yourself. Trust the process. Keep showing up.

Let hear it for this months BOM 🥊 - Amy Gomez! Amy has been attending Santa Cruz Boxing regularly for over 4 months, starting as a way to stay active.
" I really believe in something I call “the point of no return” with your body and health. Once you hit that point, it’s incredibly difficult to reverse the effects of inactivity. I saw the ad for the intro special at Santa Cruz Boxing and decided to challenge myself with something different." Amy can bulldoze anything that comes her way and has become a straight machine! This week at Santa Cruz Boxing our theme is:

Know your numbers.

1 = Jab
2 = Cross
3 = Lead Hook
4 = Rear Hook
5 = Lead Uppercut
6 = Rear Uppercut

Seems simple enough.

But this week isn’t about memorizing punches. It’s about building reflexes.

Level 1 members will learn the correct movement and throw the right punch as naturally and efficiently as possible.

Level 2 members will build three punch combinations.

Level 3 members will work on four punch combinations with speed, precision, and reflexibility.

Funny enough, I spent this weekend planting tomatoes. Something I had been putting off for weeks even though I love gardening.

It reminded me how often we delay the things we know are good for us.

Training is like that.

One punch becomes two. Two becomes combinations. Repetition becomes confidence.

Plant the seed. Trust the process.
