Mark your calendars for November 8th - the Captain’s Club is hosting a 5k run and walk in memory of Emily Smith!
Greenville High School’s Captain’s Club is designed to foster collaboration between athletes and the community. The group is selective - students are nominated by faculty and chosen based on established criteria. Think of it as the National Honor Society for athletics.
Senior tri-sport athlete Charlotte Dawson serves as founder and President of the organization. “Our goal is to foster a connection between athletes and the community, and this event is the first step.”
Next month, the club will host a 5k Run and Walk in memory of Emily Smith, a beloved Greenville graduate, athlete, and friend who tragically passed away earlier this year.
Members of the Captain’s Club serve as mentors. They are tasked with raising awareness about essential principles like responsibility, respect, perseverance, and kindness - all qualities that Emily exhibited throughout her life, on and off the court.
“November is the perfect time to commemorate Emily’s life in another way,” Dawson shared. Emily would have turned 21 years old on November 5th, and November 16th marks six months since her passing.
The 5K Run & Walk in Memory of Emily Smith will be held on Sunday, November 8th at Greenville High School. The race begins at noon. Whether you’re a runner or just in it for the fun, Dawson encourages everyone to get active, give back, and celebrate the life of one of Greenville’s best.
The course is family-friendly, meaning no matter your pace, this race is for you! Runners, walkers, adults, children, and even families with strollers are invited to remember Emily.
Registration is $10 per person. Registrants will receive a t-shirt and lunch. Captain’s Club will also have baked goods on sale. Proceeds from the event will be split between Captain’s Club, Potsdam’s Emily Smith Memorial Fund, and the Emily Mae Smith Memorial Fund. For groups larger than 10, discounts are available.
