James Morrison is a self-taught gunsmith who worked for other gun shops in the early 1970's. In 1976, from his home garage, he formed his own business and became a certified gunsmith. Gun Repair expanded to a storefront on Whitfield Ave. Gun Repair was no longer just a repair shop. It became a full line gun shop that sells fi****ms, ammo, accessories, pepper spray, stun guns, knives, and other sel

f-protection items. Gun Repair has become a great example of a family owned, family operated business. James' wife, Marianne, two sons’ Anthony, and Benwayne, and family friends Larry and Ron all work at the gun shop. In 2007, James turned the reins over to his son Anthony. James has always enjoyed teaching the public about gun safety. Not only can you walk into the store and ask him questions, he also teaches concealed weapons classes and assists the State with Hunters Safety & Education courses. Gun Repair also assists with Friends of the NRA and in March of 2011, they became the only gun shop to be part of the Manatee Chamber of Commerce.
