⭐️ STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: BRODY ⭐️ This month, we wanted to get to know our superstar brody makua🪼 a bit better! We asked her some questions about her journey and experience dancing with us, and here’s what she had to say…
🧡What was your first class at SoF like?
🧡My first class at Soul on Fire was Beginning Burlesque, and I started right when everyone was teaching the combos for the recital. Everyone was so nice and welcoming and they were fully ready to let me join the performance despite it being my first class there ever. I think it really just speaks to how supportive soul on fire is. Every instructor and student just wants you to succeed, and it’s an energy I could feel from the moment I stepped (or rather rolled) into the studio.
🧡How long have you been dancing and how has dancing changed you?
🧡I took my first dance class when I was 3 or 4, and I wasn’t particularly good at it. I was very into musical theatre 🎭 but dance was always something I struggled with. Then, when I was 11, I developed a chronic illness and wasn’t able to continue going to school, much less continue theatre and dance. This year was the first time I stepped foot in a dance studio in more than 10 years. In the last few months, dancing again has given me back so much more than I ever could have guessed. My confidence has grown, as well as my connection with my body. 💪 Dancing again has also given me such a great, positive emotional outlet. And especially, having the opportunity to perform again has filled me with so much joy. ✨
🧡What advice do you have for someone taking class for the first time?
🧡To let go. Let yourself make mistakes, let go of trying to look like the person next to you, and let yourself have fun. Enjoy the moving and the music. Enjoy just trying.
🧡🧡
If you’re reading this, take this as your sign to give dance a try! Our studio door is always open to anyone who’s been wanting to get into it (or back into it after awhile) in the most supportive and positive space 🫶 see you in class 💋
