Think 3 years old is too young for jiu-jitsu? Think again. šŸ’™šŸ„‹

Valentina has only been training for 2 weeks, and Eric has been with us for just a couple of months. Every child starts somewhere, and every class is an opportunity to grow.

At GFT San Antonio, we don’t just teach jiu-jitsu. We help children:
• Build confidence
• Improve coordination and motor skills
• Learn to follow directions
• Develop respect and discipline
• Become more independent
• Learn to control their emotions

Our goal is to help every child become the best version of themselves—on and off the mats. You might be surprised by how much your 3-year-old is capable of when given the right environment.

Come see what your little champion can do. šŸ’™

Today I watched an interview with Master Julio CƩsar, the founder of GFT, and something he said really stayed with me:

ā€œWe’re not trying to create jiu-jitsu champions. We’re trying to create champions in life.ā€

That is exactly what we strive to do at our academy every day.

Some of our students come to us with no athletic background at all. Some are only 3 years old and are still developing basic motor skills. We also have several children on the autism spectrum who have made incredible progress through consistent training, patience, and the support of their families.

We don’t expect children to be great on day one. We believe every child has potential when someone is willing to invest time, patience, and consistency in them.

Our goal is much bigger than teaching armbars and triangles. We want to help children become confident, respectful, resilient, independent, and emotionally strong. Those are the skills that will serve them for the rest of their lives.

If they become jiu-jitsu champions one day, that’s a bonus. But our greatest victory is helping raise champions in life.

It takes a team to help shape great kids, and we are so thankful for ours. ā¤ļø

Professor Mike & Professor Emma – Husband and wife, dedicated to teaching not only jiu-jitsu, but also respect, confidence, discipline, and strong values.

Coach Miguel – Our son. He started training when he was just 5 years old, and now he enjoys passing on what he has learned to the next generation.

Coach Ɖrica – The one all the kids know means business! šŸ˜… She may be the ā€œmeanā€ coach, but every child knows how much she truly loves and cares about them. She holds them accountable, pushes them to do their best, and never lets them give up. She is also a proud mom, and her youngest son trains with us too.

Coach Lupe – One of our longtime students (yes, one of our ā€œolderā€ students šŸ˜‚). She works with patients who require physical therapy, and her patience, kindness, and positive attitude make her an incredible coach for our kids.

Coach Audrina – Almost 16 years old, currently a green belt and soon to be a blue belt. She has been training since she was 7 years old and has been part of our academy since she was 11. She is a dedicated competitor, an outstanding role model, and someone our younger students truly look up to.

We all come from different backgrounds, but we share one mission: to help kids become stronger—not just in jiu-jitsu, but in life.

Thank you to every family that trusts us with your children. We don’t take that responsibility lightly, and we are honored to be part of their journey. šŸ’™šŸ„‹

After work. After responsibilities. We still show up.

Discipline isn’t about having time—it’s about making time.

Every class is a chance to become stronger, healthier, and more confident.

I’ve always said that enrolling my son, Miguel, in jiu-jitsu was one of the best decisions I ever made as a parent.

Jiu-jitsu taught him so much beyond techniques. It taught him discipline, respect, resilience, confidence, and the value of hard work.

Now, seeing him pass those same lessons on to the next generation fills my heart with joy. There’s no greater reward than watching what changed his life help change the lives of other kids too. ā¤ļøšŸ„‹

Consequences are part of learning.

Today it was Mathew, Thomas, and little Kaleth… and yes, Kaleth is only 3 years old.

At our 5:00 PM kids class, we have one simple rule: no running on the mats before class. If they need to move, they stay on their knees.

Why? Because we learned the hard way. In the past, kids ran into each other and someone ended up with a bad cut. Safety comes first.

So when a rule is broken, there is a consequence: a few burpees.

Some people may think they’re too young, but we believe the opposite. Children are never too young to learn respect, self-control, and accountability.

At GFT, we don’t use consequences to punish—we use them to teach. We want our kids to understand that every action has a result, and learning that lesson early helps them become stronger, safer, and more respectful as they grow.

Strong kids aren’t created by avoiding challenges. They’re created by learning from them.
