Acceptance of both expectations and reality -

A common problem encountered in life is the mental crisis that results from personal expectations not coinciding with reality.

When people expect one thing of themselves, yet conduct their lives in a different manner, a sort of cognitive dissonance occurs, forcing them to perpetually reevaluate.

For example - Someone may want to achieve great things, yet their environment encourages normality and a state of being average. The likelihood of said person being average is statistically greater than not, the exception being in regards to those with a high level of discipline.

On the other hand, a person may want nothing but to live a quiet and fairly uneventful life. They may wish to be nothing and do nothing, yet everyone around pushes them to be "greater" and go do "better things".

It can be argued that both are ok. However, whether one chooses to be great or whether one chooses to be average, know what each of those entails in its entirety and accept it.

The greatest things in life do not come easily to those who are average. To choose normality is to accept less than everything that one could become and have in life.

Similarly, the path to greatness in all its various forms is anything but easy. To choose this is to specifically highlight oneself as a target for criticism, ridicule, and doubt. Most who have failed along this way will eagerly await the downfall of whoever chooses it next.

Whatever you choose in life, do so knowingly. There's more respect for the person who consciously chooses to be average than for the person who loudly speaks of being better than average, yet never does anything beyond that.

The person we would like to see ourselves become oftentimes lies just on the other side of some kind of difficulty or pain.

This is why there are less living their dreams, and more dreaming of life.

If you always choose what is most comfortable and convenient, then you will always stay right where you are, if not digress even.

Nothing worth having in life is free, and it will exact its toll. So embrace adversity, acknowledge the journey.

On the other side stands the personification of all that previously unused potential.

On the other side is a better you.

Implementing Directed Consistency in Life -

Given that life is constantly in motion, with both its tangibles and intangibles, nothing is ever truly at a standstill.

Things just seem this way because the movement is simply too small to notice, be it progression or digression.

If you lead a destructive lifestyle, things will not necessarily fall apart overnight. In fact, circumstances might seem fine for quite a while - until one day they don't.

That's simply the day you notice.

On the other hand, you might make the decision to be more productive, more active. Life also won't change for the better overnight. In fact, you'll most likely feel like you're accomplishing nothing. And this will go on for a while - until one day it doesn't.

And that's simply the day you notice.

The reality of consistency is that it is not selective. Life doesn't care about how you feel, only about what you do.

You could hate every minute of every useful, productive thing you do and in the end, life will still reward you with the results as long as you were consistent.

The same applies to every minute you spend loving whatever is an absolute waste of time.

This is not to say that life is "all work, no play". But rather to understand that our lives are a direct reflection of what we choose to consistently put our time and effort in.

The things we want most in life never come easily, but that's what makes them so worth having.

Where do you see yourself in the next 3-5 years?

The importance of pairing clarity with determination -

Regardless of what one chooses to pursue in life, determination is almost always seen as an admirable trait.

A child seen studying for hours on end or a worker seeking new opportunities at their job. There are countless examples of how a person might display the determination to do better.

Where clarity comes in is that it gives direction to the aforementioned efforts.

Imagine someone racing to outrun and outpace everyone around them, only to find out they had been running in the wrong direction the whole time.

Perhaps said person should have been running to Point A, but instead raced everyone who had set out for Point B.

So what if they beat everyone? They beat everyone to the wrong goal.

If we do not decide where we are going in life, we cannot complain about where we end up.

Having clarity is important because it ensures precious time will not be wasted.

It ensures that our efforts will be put towards the right things in the right way to get us where we need to be.

We clarify today what needs to be done so that tomorrow is not wasted.

The coexistence of gratitude and ambition -

In today's busy world, it can be hard to pinpoint an exact balance between gratitude and ambition.

On one hand, we have people constantly telling us to be grateful for what we have. The tonality in which this is stated often implies that we should refrain from the pursuit of anything greater.

On the other hand, there are those who insist on never being satisfied. These people stress the importance of constantly being on the grind, as if life was "all work, no play".

"You should always be hungry for more!" they might say.

At first glance, it might seem like these two are mutually exclusive. They are not.

In fact, the juxtaposition created when going from nothing to greatness oftentimes results in gratitude.

The concept of "staying hungry" or "staying on the grind" is really about recognizing how much more you could improve. It's about having an honest conversation with yourself and asking - "Is this really all I've got? Or can I do more? Can I go further?"

Regarding gratitude, this about taking small pauses in life to look around at where you are now. It's easy to miss how far you've come because of how far you still have to go. By taking these moments to reflect, you can learn to appreciate the efforts made and the subsequent fruits of your labor.

Take time to appreciate your journey, just don't lose sight of the destination.

On Reframing -

How we choose to react to something, how we choose to execute a plan, how we interact with those around us - all of this depends on the lenses through which we view whatever it may be.

A minor inconvenience for one person may be a catastrophic disaster for another.

A certain act of kindness may seem commonplace to one individual, yet positively affect another to a drastic degree.

It all depends on how they choose to view it.

While "choosing" may be a conscious action, the "decisions" we make subconsciously are almost always influenced by the habits developed during conscious activity.

Therefore, consciously choosing to do something good can later lead to said action becoming second nature.

In regards to reframing, if we choose to take a pause and consider how we view a situation, we can give ourselves the chance to see the opportunities in that situation, to see some good or some benefit in it.

Even the worst of days could be considered an opportunity to exercise certain stress-management techniques we may know, should we choose to view the situation that way.

If we choose to find the negative in everything, we will never fail in doing so. However, we will also find ourselves always angry and likely blaming others for everything we can think of.

Let us then choose instead to look for opportunities to grow and develop. The obstacles will still be there. But there's a difference.

We see the obstacles, but we look for the opportunities.

On Balance -

In seeking to create balance, look to acquire clarity.

Balance is not always stillness, but should surely never feel unstable.

Stillness without clarity is practically self-induced paralysis.

Yet movement with clarity creates an assurance that is, by its nature, balanced.

Balance is not about always moving or always remaining still. It is about doing both when each is appropriate.
