Making room for growth doesn't have to be drastic. It can be just 5 or 10 more minutes a day. Get that journal and write out what you need to do in your next run. Watch lessons from people you look up to. Read posts about how to be a better horseman. It doesn't have to be drastic, but you do have to take the step.

Ways to get better at barrel racing:

1. Get in the habit of watching your run videos over and over. See where you're losing time, watch what your hands are doing, watch what your feet are doing, see what you're doing good, watch in slo motion. If you can't find an issue, ask someone who is where you want to be to take a look.

2. Find a mentor. Not much can beat in person lessons, but a mentor that can review your videos is also very beneficial. In the comments, I have linked my Youtube members where I post lesson videos.

3. Start exercising your abs 💪 Well, really exercise everything, but especially that core! The faster you go the more important I have found it 🤣

How critical should we be to ourselves? Is there ever really a "horrible" run?

How we speak to ourselves is important. It's easy to get frustrated when you've been practicing just to have a less than ideal run.

I always ask myself:

"Is my horse safe?" and "Am I safe?"

If the answer to both of those is yes, then it wasn't a horrible run or even a bad run.

All you can do is look analytically at your run and make your plan for the next one! Don't bully yourself, make a plan and work towards it. Negative self talk will affect your performance. It's easy to get caught up in a negative fog, so avoid it!! Tell yourself what you did GOOD too, even if it was a small thing.

This was a less than ideal run for me and my face shows how thrilled I was 🤣🤣 But I've got my plan ready for the next one!

Responding to a comment from Tik Tok ☺️ Like I said in the first video, rein management is still a skill you need to have. However, I do not rest my hands in the middle of the reins. I get in position in the alley and stay there unless I need to move. When I do have to slide it's not nearly as far!
