Welcome to the first ever River Bluff Trail Runs put on by our local trail running club, the Pony Express Trail Runners.

In this race you will run through two of our beautiful parks including the historic Krug park and our famous River Bluff Trail Park.

Lance Leonard from Cameron, Missouri!

Lance is officially signed up for the 10K, and we’re excited to have him making the trip to Saint Joseph to take on the River Bluff trails.

We love seeing runners from all across the region coming together for this inaugural event. The 10K will be a great opportunity to experience the trails, challenge yourself, and enjoy the community that makes trail running so special.

Today’s spotlight is shining on another hometown runner…

Shaun Agnew from Saint Joseph, Missouri!

Shaun is officially signed up for the 10K, and we’re excited to have him joining us for the inaugural River Bluff Trail Runs!

Shaun is a familiar face on the local trails, and he clearly knows how to enjoy them with good company. We had to include a picture of his trail buddy, Forrest, who may not be joining Shaun on race day, but definitely enjoys getting out and exploring the trails with him!

We love seeing local runners who appreciate what our trails have to offer and are willing to come out and challenge themselves at River Bluff.

We’ve got another seasoned ultrarunner joining the River Bluff starting line!

David Lingerfelt from Kansas City, Missouri!

David is officially signed up for our 50K, and he’s bringing some serious trail experience with him. With 36+ trail and ultramarathon races under his belt, David is no stranger to long miles, tough terrain, and the unique challenges that come with running on dirt.

We’re excited to have runners like David traveling from the Kansas City area to experience the River Bluff trails. His experience will definitely make him one to watch when race day rolls around!

Kim Hurst from Saint Joseph, Missouri!

Kim has officially signed up for the 25K, and we’re excited to have her joining us for race day!

There’s nothing better than seeing our own St. Joe running community step up, challenge themselves, and be part of something happening right here in their hometown. The River Bluff trails are going to provide plenty of dirt, hills, and adventure, and we can’t wait to see Kim take them on!

Abbie Ball from Saint Joseph, Missouri!

Abbie is officially signed up for our 10K, and we’re thrilled to have another local runner joining us for the inaugural River Bluff Trail Runs.

The 10K is a great opportunity to get out on the trails, challenge yourself, and enjoy everything our local trail community has to offer. We’re especially excited to see more St. Joe runners stepping up and making this event their own.

Let’s meet another runner who’s ready to take on the River Bluff trails…

Jacob Ball from Saint Joseph, Missouri!

Jacob has officially signed up for the 50K, making this his first ultramarathon. There’s something special about taking that leap beyond the marathon distance and embracing the unknown. It takes courage, commitment, and a willingness to challenge yourself.

We’re honored that Jacob chose the River Bluff Trail Runs for this milestone. We have no doubt the River Bluff trails, the volunteers, and the trail running community will make it an experience to remember.

Jacob, thank you for trusting us with your first ultra. We can’t wait to see you cross that 50K finish line and officially join the ultrarunner club!

We want to extend a sincere thank you to the Missouri Dept. of Conservation for working with us and granting permission for a portion of the River Bluff Trail Runs course to travel through the beautiful Sunbridge Hills Conservation Area.

Because of their support, our runners will get to experience one of the most scenic and historic areas in Northwest Missouri.

Purchased by the Missouri Department of Conservation in 1972, Sunbridge Hills encompasses 230 acres of forests, open prairie, and towering bluffs overlooking the Missouri River. Roughly 70% of the area is forested, creating incredible scenery throughout the year from brilliant redbuds in the spring to vibrant oak and maple colors each fall.

Long before Saint Joseph existed, Native American tribes recognized the beauty and significance of these bluffs. This area was known as “Lanowa,” meaning “Sacred Region,” a fitting name for a place that continues to inspire visitors today.

As runners make their way through Sunbridge Hills, they’ll also pass near the historic Liliger Family Cemetery, a small family cemetery dating back to the late 1800s. While many local legends have surrounded the area over the years, what remains today is a peaceful reminder of Buchanan County’s early settlers and rich history.

Keep your eyes on the skies, too you may even spot a bald eagle soaring above the Missouri River, especially during migration seasons. The conservation area is also home to deer, wild turkeys, countless songbirds, and a diverse hardwood forest that makes every visit unique.

We are incredibly grateful to the Missouri Department of Conservation for preserving places like Sunbridge Hills and allowing outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy them through hiking, trail running, mountain biking, wildlife viewing, hunting, fishing, and countless other recreational opportunities.

These public lands belong to all of us, and we’re honored to showcase them during the inaugural River Bluff Trail Runs.

Another hometown runner is joining us for race day, and we’re excited to introduce…

Lauren OCallaghan from Saint Joseph, Missouri!

Lauren has officially claimed her spot in the 10K, and we couldn’t be happier to have her as part of the inaugural River Bluff Trail Runs.

One of the best parts of putting on this race has been watching local runners step up and support an event in their own backyard. Every registration helps grow the trail running community here in Saint Joseph and makes this event even more special.

Lauren, thank you for being part of this first year. We hope you have an unforgettable experience on the River Bluff trails, and we can’t wait to cheer you across the finish line this December!
