Ever wonder what it takes to collect the data that helps protect the Chattahoochee?

It’s not as simple as showing up at the river.

Water levels have to be right. The river needs to be safe and accessible. Release schedules from the dam have to cooperate. Seasonal sampling windows have to line up. And sometimes, volunteers only get a day’s notice before it’s time to go.

Behind every water quality report, bug survey, and river health update is a team of dedicated scientists, volunteers, and conservationists working behind the scenes to better understand and protect the waters we all enjoy.

Want to help? River stewardship isn’t just for guides, biologists, or experts. Whether you’re a fisherman, paddler, hiker, or someone who simply loves clean water, there’s a place for you in protecting Atlanta’s river.

The Chattahoochee belongs to all of us. Let’s keep it healthy for future generations.

Memorial Day on the Chattahoochee 🇺🇸

Today we remember the brave men and women who gave everything for this country and the freedoms we get to enjoy every single day out on the water.

From everyone at River Through Atlanta, thank you to all who served and especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We hope everyone gets the chance to slow down this weekend, spend time with family, enjoy God’s creation, and reflect on what this day truly means.

See y’all on the river. 🎣

“What’s the purpose behind this?” 🪰🎣

If you asked a fly fisherman why we spend time sorting bugs, studying patterns, and talking about fly selection… this is why.

The bugs in the river are the menu for the fish.
Understanding what they’re eating helps us imitate it naturally, match the hatch, and ultimately create better days on the water.

There may be hundreds of fly variations… but every pattern tells a story about what’s happening beneath the surface.

This is the side of fly fishing most people never see. The details. The observation. The learning process. And honestly… that’s part of what makes it so addicting.

The river is always teaching something. 🌊
