Bittersweet week at Formula SAE Michigan IC competition. This marks the final time Pack Motorsports will compete with an internal combustion car in Michigan before officially transitioning fully to EV next season. Proud of everything this team accomplished throughout the week. 🏁

• Passed all technical inspections
• Advanced to Top 10 Design Finals
• 14th in Business Presentation
• Competed in every dynamic event

Dynamic Results:

🥇 1st Place Acceleration - 4.126s
🏎️ 18th Skidpad - 5.140s
🏎️ 23rd Autocross - 43.439s
🏎️ Endurance - DNF (9.5 laps completed)

Although we ended endurance with a DNF due to a fuel tank issue, the team showed resilience and determination all week long.

Our tentative overall finish: 22nd place.

Huge thank you to all of our teammates, alumni, sponsors, faculty, friends, and family for supporting us throughout this season. Excited to take everything we learned and push even harder as we prepare for EV competition in June.

DAY 3:
Big day for Pack Motorsports.

We started the morning by getting through sound and brakes pretty quickly, then headed straight to practice to get the tires warmed up and get some extra seat time before dynamic events.

Dynamic events kicked off with skidpad, where we put down a 5.140. From there we moved over to autocross and finished with a 43.439. After that we headed to acceleration and ran a 4.126. That run currently puts us in a tentative 1st place overall finish in acceleration, making us the fastest team in the event so far.

We also competed in design finals today, which is a huge accomplishment.

Tomorrow is endurance, the final event of the week, and the whole team is focused on getting the car fully prepared. Stay tuned!

DAY 2:
Our first really busy day at competition. We started the morning with design presentations for each subsystem, then went straight into cost and presented there as well. Right after, we completed fuel and tilt.

Later in the day we went through sound tech and ended up being just a little too loud, so the rest of the afternoon was spent preparing to head back first thing tomorrow morning.

We ended the day with some BIG news:
• Advanced to Design Finals: prepping and presenting tomorrow afternoon!
• Placed 14th in Business Presentations: one of our best finishes yet in the business category. Huge shoutout to our Business Lead, Addison Reid, for all the hard work behind that result.

DAY 1:
A quick update from the team here at Michigan!
We arrived this morning and got settled into the pits. Today’s schedule included SES, Mechanical Tech, and Scales. Everything went smoothly overall, with only a few minor issues along the way. We successfully passed tech and completed scales before they closed for the day.

Tomorrow’s itinerary includes Design in the morning followed by Brakes, Sound, and Tilt. We’ll be posting real-time updates on our story throughout the day, so be sure to follow along!

Wish us luck tomorrow ,the whole team is having a great time so far.

The best time of year: RACEWEEK!🐺

With all eyes on the prize, PM26IC is heading to Brooklyn, MI to represent Pack Motorsports in the Internal Combustion category for the final time.

Lead Spotlight: Matthew Carroll!

Matt is the Powertrain Lead and a Mechanical Engineering Student graduating in 2027. He joined the team his freshman year because he wanted to do something automotive or motorsports related and Formula SAE “seemed like the perfect opportunity for both.”

His favorite memories come from the annual first drive, where the car is pushed to an alley and fired up, roaring with open headers as the car moves under its own power for the first time. The sight of the entire powertrain team’s dedication and hard work coming to fruition is what makes this moment special for him.

On the technical side, the project Matt is most proud of is the completely custom exhaust headers he designed and produced for PM24. This was the team’s first ever set of titanium headers and as such came with its own set of complexities. Despite the challenge, he was able to create a final product that surpassed performance targets, all with an added bonus of visual and auditory aesthetics.

After graduation, Matt hopes to continue to work in the automotive industry’s research and development sector, either developing new technologies or adapting solutions from other industries to the automotive field.

During long shop nights, his go-to Cook Out order is a big double burger tray with a chicken quesadilla and cajun fries on the side and an oreo peanut butter milkshake. Thanks for everything you bring to the team, Matt!⚙️

Lead Spotlight: Emma Studnek!

Emma is a Mechanical Engineering student graduating in 2027 and serves as the IC Aerodynamics Lead. She joined Pack Motorsports during her freshman year, looking for a space to push herself in a place she never thought she would be. What made her stay was the environment and the opportunity to invest real effort in a project that is technically challenging and therefore incredibly rewarding.

Emma’s favorite memories come from the everyday culture of the team: all the random late nights where everyone is working hard and having a good time. She believes those small moments really matter most in the long run.

On the technical side, Emma particularly enjoys testing days where the team makes the most progress. She finds it deeply satisfying to look at the day’s results, make changes to the car, and ultimately understand the car better. For her, seeing tangible progress is a major highlight.

Looking ahead, Emma hopes to work in a mechanical design position and eventually pursue a master’s degree in electrical engineering.

During long shop nights, her go-to Cook Out order is a double chicken quesadilla tray with hush puppies, cheese bites, and a caramel fudge milkshake. Thanks for everything you bring to the team, Emma!
