When we hear the word "steady," we often think of holding still.

In yoga, steadiness is something more nuanced. It involves attention, balance, and the ability to stay present with what is happening in the body and mind.

Over time, students learn that steadiness is not rigidity - it is responsiveness supported by awareness.

Using the wall for balance work can help students develop greater steadiness and awareness in standing poses.

Support provides feedback that allows the body to work more clearly and confidently while learning the actions of the pose.

This is one of the ways props and external support are used in Iyengar Yoga to deepen understanding.

A reminder about our upcoming session:

Supporting Summer Movement: A Complementary Practice

This session is designed to support the increased physical activity that often comes with summer - whether that’s hiking, cycling, gardening, swimming, or simply moving more outdoors.

We will explore a balanced sequence that works with:
• strength and stability in the legs
• mobility in the hips
• openness in the shoulders
• support for the spine

The practice also includes actions that prepare the body for activity and help support recovery afterward.

Participants will receive a sequence they can continue using at home throughout the summer months.

Over time, the practice of yoga begins to affect more than the body.

With consistency, awareness deepens. You begin to notice patterns more clearly, respond with greater steadiness, and develop a different relationship to effort, attention, and rest.

The transformation is often subtle at first, but meaningful over time.

The breath is an important part of developing awareness in yoga practice.

Changes in breathing can help us recognize when effort becomes excessive or when the body begins to lose steadiness.

Rather than controlling the breath forcefully, students learn to observe it carefully while practicing.

Over time, this awareness helps create a more balanced and sustainable practice.

Using support in forward bending poses can help create more space and reduce unnecessary strain in the body.

Props such as blocks allow students to work with greater clarity and stability while maintaining awareness throughout the pose.

This is a simple but important part of the learning process in Iyengar Yoga.

Summer activities often place different demands on the body - whether through hiking, cycling, gardening, swimming, or simply spending more time moving outdoors.

This class is designed to help support those activities through a balanced sequence addressing strength, mobility, endurance, and recovery.

We’ll focus on:
• legs and hips
• shoulders and spine
• actions that prepare the body for movement
• ways to support recovery afterward

Students will also receive a sequence they can continue practicing at home throughout the summer months.
