Up until the end of 2023 I was (pretty intentionally) playing an over-the-top swing. I was stubborn as heck and didn’t think that changing my natural swing was necessary to achieve more consistency. 16 months later, I can say with certainty that working toward a more “inside-to-out” delivery through impact was the most positive swing change I’ve ever made. Part of the way I accomplished this was to take the club a bit more straight back, creating more space inside for the downswing. Maybe the most interesting piece of this change is that both my backswing and my downswing are now LESS inside overall. The key was getting my downswing to be “inside” relative to the takeaway, NOT to getting my swing more inside in general. The difference doesn’t necessarily look that dramatic (just a few inches right?) but the feel and results speak for themselves. It’s only February and I’ve already broken my personal scoring record (spoiler alert!), have noticeably more reliable contact, and am more confident in my iron game than ever before. Simply put, golf is way more fun now. Cheers to breaking new barriers in 2025! 🍻
