Mini Hard Scary Thing #1
Im in between Big Hard Scary Things, but I don’t want to stop choosing things that challenge me.
There’s something powerful about pursuing the things that scare us a little. They remind us what we’re capable of—and sometimes choosing the hard and scary thing can be one of the best decisions we make.
So I went back to a place I deeply missed: Grand Canyon. A new trail, at night, route finding through the dark.
Here’s to continuing to choose the hard, scary things.

Day 29 of my 43-day solo Mid-Pacific row, a longline tuna fisherman out of Honolulu changed my day.
His daughter had encouraged him to come say hello, and he pulled alongside my boat with a plate of fresh sashimi he wanted to share. It was one of the kindest gestures I experienced out there.
I couldn’t accept it because I needed to maintain my unsupported status, but his generosity meant more than the meal ever could.
The ocean can feel impossibly big, but moments like this remind you just how connected we really are. I’ll never forget his kindness.
