A look back to this summer’s National Matches at Camp Perry, where we met a few young spectators who were bananas about picking up brass 🍌

Every team of the National Trophy Infantry Team Match (commonly known as the Rattle Battle from its completely rapid-fire format) is responsible for cleaning up the many remnants of leftover brass after each string of the competition.

Once a stage is completed, the teams move up to the next firing line, and those responsible for the brass get to work.

This year, Levi Smith and Ryleigh Nieten of Texas wanted to join in on action, with a little flair!

Ryleigh suggested they dress up as monkeys for the range — and after a quick online costume search and delivery, they were in (monkey) business.

We appreciated your hard work, and we hope you had a barrel of fun! 🐵

USAMU’s Maddalena, Roe Take Top Spots in 2026 National Matches Smallbore & Air R***e

CAMP PERRY, Ohio – At the 2026 National Three-Position Smallbore & Air Gun Championships, SSG Sagen Maddalena, 33, and SGT Ivan Roe, 30, of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) were each presented their Three-Position Smallbore Distinguished Badges.

It’s a high distinction in the marksmanship community and one that both worked hard to achieve, but it wasn’t the only proof of excellence the pair brought home from the annual event.

Curious of the progress of our new expansion project at Camp Perry?

Here’s a look! From the first smash of the excavator grapple on Petrarca’s roofline to all the groundwork that’s taken place since construction began at the beginning of August.

So much more to go before the complex is completed by the end of next year, but we’re excited to watch it all take shape!

And for those wanting to get some air range time before the updated facility is completed, WE’RE OPEN!

The current Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center will remain accessible to the public each week, starting today — Tues. & Thurs. 12-8 p.m. and Wed. 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

2026 National Matches Close with Significant Participation Gains

For the second year in a row, the National Matches that were conducted by the CMP and Ohio National Guard at Camp Perry enjoyed significant participation increases in almost all National Matches Championships and individual events.

In 2025, the National Matches enjoyed a phenomenal year of growth with 28 National Matches Championships averaging participation increases of 12.5 percent.

The 2026 National Matches achieved participation gains that were almost that high again this year. There were 19 Championships/Events that gained competitors this year, even considering the substantial growth in 2025.

There were only five Championships that showed small losses, none exceeding three percent. Weather and Canadian wildfire smoke were negative factors this year, causing an additional five events to have losses or cancelations.

The most significant 2026 growth increases were in Long-Range R***e (+48%), Mid-Range R***e (+29%), National Trophy R***e Team Match (+23%), Long-Range Palma (+23%) and Air Pistol (+22%).

CMP’s Monthly Matches Return for Fall Season

The CMP is excited to announce the return of its Monthly Matches lineup to close out the 2026 air gun and smallbore season!

Monthly Matches are open to adult and junior competitors of all skill levels and offer a variety of events, including 3×20 precision and sporter air r***e competitions and 60-shot standing air r***e and air pistol competitions. Monthly Matches are held at CMP’s Competition Centers in Ohio and Alabama, each equipped with 80 indoor electronic targets.

Monthly Matches remaining for 2026 include:
- Sept. 19
- Oct. 17
- Nov. 21

As in previous Monthly Matches, a 3×20 smallbore event will be held at the Alabama location the day following the air gun competitions – conducted at CMP’s Talladega Marksmanship Park, just a short drive from the Judith Legerski CMP Competition Center. Those dates include Sept. 20, Oct. 18 and Nov. 22.

Additionally, the Ohio location will be hosting a special Sport Shooting Depot consignment store during the fall months, beginning Sept. 19! Products on display and available for purchase will include International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) approved equipment like jackets, pants and more.

Each facility is open to the public every week, featuring 80 points of indoor electronic targets for air r***e or air pistol use. Adults and juniors welcome!

Bring your own equipment or use ours! Come for practice, simulate competition or simply to try something new. Our staff members are on hand to ensure safety and to answer all your questions.
