I am authorized to teach Wushu by Zhao Changjun, Shifu, Bai Wenxiang, Shifu and others. My experience includes years of training in martial arts, yoga, dance, and theatrical arts.
The Wushu curriculum includes Jiben gong (Foundation exercises) Stretching and advanced stretching, Shaolin forms, Tongbei Northern Wushu styles, Fan, Staff, and Self-Defense training which is a combination of techniques from various styles or common-sense techniques. (Boxing, Kick boxing, JKD, Moy Thai, Yun Chun, Judo and more….) We strongly encourage non-violence and the best physical fight is the one that doesn’t happen. The first technique is to disengage and not let a situation turn to violence. However, a person should be prepared to defend themselves and their families should the need arise.
Traditional and Modern Wushu is a combination of Martial Arts, beautiful dance like movements, and some tumbling. It includes both internal and external arts, hard and soft techniques, barehand and weapons forms. Wushu also includes meditation and breathing techniques in which I teach my students basic breathing exercises and basic Tai Ji. (Tai ji 8, 24, 42, and Jian). I also teach Ba Gua and Xing Yi. Many times I will teach a specific technique or stretch and the student will say “I learned this in dance” or they refer to sports training etc…
I continue to study wushu and acknowledge those of all levels. Those higher than me and those lower in rank to me. Knowledge does not stop at a black belt or master level. It is a life-long study and the goal is to apply the training in one’s everyday life as an upright member of the community. My Shifu, Zhao Changjun, gave me the title of Shifu. He called me little Shifu or young Shifu. Even with this title, I faced many sessions in which he taught me and corrected me in my training.
The Wushu Cultural Experience is unique which combines Chinese cultural traditions with traditional and modern training. A student must have patience and passion in their training which will lead to understanding.
