Random Friday thoughts brought to you by Dena...
Get To vs Have To
I read a book a while ago and went through a Leadership course that brought up this subject. Your mindset matters. Saying or thinking I Get To... vs I Have To... makes a world of a difference in your life.
Consider the choices you have in life. 'I have to' implies you must do something, a potential negative connotation; while 'I get to' is more positive and you will potentially get enjoyment out of it.
Example - Today, I was off work, James needed help setting up at church and while he didn't expect me to come help it was an 'I get to' moment. A time we got to spend together working on something that was needed for him. While I could have opted to stay home to do dojo work or anything else, I got to do it. We also needed to pick up my Jeep from the shop (it needed some work done, ick) and while that was a 'I have to' because it can't just stay there, my mindset needs to focus on the 'I get to'. I get to have the privilege of owning a car, a car I absolutely love. Yes, it needed work and the bill wasn't cheap, but...I get to drive it, own it!
Life has choices presented, sometimes very hard choices. While I don't want to make this terribly long I want you to consider - Do you Get To do something or do you Have To do something? Next time a choice is presented consider changing the verbiage on the things that aren't so great to I GET TO! Curious on others thoughts, comment below...and picture is just bc socials prefer a photo included ;) so enjoy.
