One of my friends who owns a martial arts school in Lakeland posted this and I wanted to share my personal experience with this. When I was 10 years old, I was a blue belt in TaeKwon-Do and I remember begging my mom to quit, I was bored of it, I rather stay home and play with my friends. My mom said "no, you can't quit until you get your black belt" (she did let me take a few weeks off). She never let me quit anything until the season was over or some sort of finishing point was reached with a sport or activity. When I got my black belt, my passion for TaeKwon-Do had already been completely restored and I had no interest in quitting ever again. I have always been so grateful to my mom for not letting me quit TaeKwon-Do. That decision greatly impacted my whole life. When she passed away this past January I even made a point in her eulogy to say how much I appreciated her not letting me quit TaeKwon-Do and also having me involved in so many activities growing up. I doubt she ever imagined that her not letting me quit TaeKwon-Do would ever have been so important that I would do a speech about it her funeral.

Children have a lot more things to do at home nowadays so I know it is hard to keep them interested in outside activities. If it were up to them they would quit school, and stay home eating ice cream and playing on the computer all day. I know some activities may not be for them and that of course is fine. But if you see talent or potential in your child for certain activities maybe think twice before letting them quit.

Just something to think about the next time your child says they want to quit an activity.
