๐ PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Gabriel Hays ๐
What is your name and where are you from?
"My name is Gabriel Hays and I'm from Washington State."
How long have you been playing hockey?
"I've only been playing hockey now for about 4 months. I'm completely new to the sport but getting better every week."
What position do you play?
"Since I'm so new, I am trying all positions of play. I find being a forward to be the most fun and the best fit for me."
What got you started in the sport?
"Honestly, watching the Olympic game between the USA and Canadaโwith the USA winningโtotally inspired me to play after watching such a heated and entertaining game. I was also looking for something active and healthy to be a part of."
What do you enjoy most about playing?
"I love how fast and skilled hockey can be. I love how challenging it is and how much there is to learn. It isn't easy, but it's incredibly rewarding when you start improving. I also love the complexity of skating and the accuracy and speed it takes to score."
What has been your favorite hockey memory or achievement?
"My favorite memory is playing in a Stick & Puck session for the first time, receiving a pass, and scoring my first goal ever. The thrill and excitement of this sport feels absolutely unparalleled to anything else I've played."
What advice would you give to younger players just getting started?
"Don't let yourself get discouraged. Hockey can be hard and stressful, especially when you're brand new. Keep trying, keep learning, and have fun with where you're at."
Do you have any pre-game rituals, superstitions, or routines?
"I haven't played enough to have any pre-game rituals or superstitions yet, but I feel like I'll develop some over time! One thing I do have is a routine of not eating before I play because I feel more energized on the ice that way."
