A few years ago, Avery Simpson never imagined he’d be where he is today.
At his heaviest, Avery weighed 374 lbs. Today, he’s down to 222.8 lbs. But this story isn’t just about the number on the scale. It’s about the small decisions made over and over again. The early mornings. The workouts he didn’t feel like doing. The races he signed up for just to prove to himself that he could. The days he showed up anyway.
Along the way, Avery learned that progress isn’t built on perfection—it’s built on setting realistic goals and chasing them with consistency. Whether it was completing the 75-day soft challenge, signing up for a 5K or a 10-mile race, hitting a new PR, or simply focusing on the next achievable step, each goal created momentum.
He’ll be the first to tell you that he didn’t do it alone.
He credits his training partner, Derek, for being there through the grind, the entire CrossFit 609 community for the encouragement and accountability, and Bill for pushing him to show up for years before he finally walked through the doors.
Because sometimes the biggest transformation starts with one person believing you can do it before you believe it yourself.
If you’ve ever thought, “I need to get in shape before I join a gym,” Avery’s story is proof that you don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to start.
The hardest part is walking through the door. After that, we’ll meet you where you are.
